LensFix CI overview

LensFix CI (Core Image), formerly LensFix PanoTools Plug-ins, is a new stand-alone program, a Photoshop CS3 plug-in and an Aperture plug-in for correcting image distortion and perspective in your photographs. Processing is lightning fast on Core Image capable Macs (most new Macs support Core Image). Features include:

  • Over thousands distortion correction presets. Chances are your camera is included.
  • Stand alone version can also be used as an external editor in Adobe's Lightroom.
  • Includes a Photoshop CS3 plug-in.
  • All versions 16 bit capable.
  • Sliders for changing perspective of your image. Straighten your image easily with vertical, horizontal and roll sliders. Unlike Photoshop, you can also change adjust the 'virtual' focal length of the image using the aspect ratio slider so the new perspective is correct.
  • Chromatic aberration correction.
  • Vignetting correction
  • Stand alone version reads and processes RAW images.
  • Batch processing.
  • Save presets for future use includes correction presets for most common cameras and lenses;

LensFIx CI 4.3 causes Photoshop to crash when using it in Snow Leopard. I have Photoshop CS4 and new (2009) 8 core Mac Pro. It used to be a great plug-in. Here's hoping an update comes soon.

Ok, what's happening here.My comment post from last night has been pulled from the reviews for no reason. Yesterdays download of LensFixCI v4.4.1 gave me v4.3. I installed it and it quits upon launching with a small 56k .jpg, then a 1.3mb .jpg and then a 10.9mb .nef from a Nikon D40x. It automatically sent reports to Apple. Each try netted the same quit.I am thourly knowledgeable, running 10.5 on a Mac Pro G5, 3G, and need it for PS CS3 asap for about 200 images. Now, late night I went to the competition's site PTLens, (www.epaperpress.com) and found them to be the initiator of the two programs 'Lens databases'. I downloaded his software v1.0.4 which is almost the same interface. It installed fine and works just fine. It is also half the price at $15. I see that I will have to make an action script to do batch processing of my images. Should be no sweat. I praise Tom Nieman for his good work.

The idea is great, but I'll have to wait a bit (it's still in beta, after all), because batch processing doesn't work for me... too bad. Something which would be amazing, would be the "applescriptability" of lensfix, in order to make it possible to write an apple script and batch process pictures from inside iPhoto!! Just a thought...

This is a great tool - especially for people who want to photograph streets, interiors, and framed artwork. These subjects really show up lens distortion, and LensFix CI does a simple yet powerful job (like Calico does for panorama stitching) of "just making it right". License is a small price to pay for such a timesaver.

Thomas took his PTLens private about a year ago. You won't see any new lenses in his old database. Check his site at epaperpress.com. I licensed the new version of the PTLens database from Thomas.

18 months later and kekus continues to develop the package. His GUI for PTools is fabulous and the plugins are great. I use the lensfix all the time, even for relatively minor adjustments - fast and accurate.

LensFix & PanoTools are fantastic utilities for correcting pictures that are i.e taken whit "fish eye" lens and be able to create panorams pictures etc. Kekus is a company with an ecellent support. Kekus has worked hard to respond to user requests and comments. He cannot be expected to do this for free! His gui for the almost unusable "free" panotools has brought that very powerful and amazing software home for the masses. Five stars for incredible cheap software - compare with any of the other stitchers or lens correction utilities for price, ease of use and results. Above all results!

I purchased this software specifically for lens distortion adjustments, thinking it might be faster to use than LensDoc(Andromeda). However, it was more difficult to use since, at least for me, it was hard to tell when the distortion was corrected. For completely precise distortion adjustments, LensDoc provides more accuracy more easily.
