Smart Scroll remains the best software that allows you to naturally grab, drag'n drop/scroll with a tablet and a stylus. To become perfect, it would take two things: - that it is less CPU-intensive; - that the Smooth Scroll option has the same scrolling fluidity as MOS.

As I started reading more long form content on-line, I began my search for an "auto-scrolling" app. Smart Scroll works very well and lets me concentrate on my reading, not scrolling manually. I actually think it has improved my comprehension while increasing my reading speed. It'd be nice to find something like this for iPad.

I sometimes wonder how much software engineering has been put into this tiny software to make it run flawlessly with all the available hardware on the market. Add to this the variety of all other software that perform in the background and need tweaking to eradicate compatibility issues and, to top it all, consider all changes that Apple makes to its operating systems with each release. And yet, this small pearl has always kept its pace with the new changes and has never let me down. I can’t even remember when I paid for my last update fee. Unlike some other developers I don’t even need to pay for a subscription to benefit from its latest developments. The developer has always been courteous and generally answers my emails in a matter of hours should any issue happen. Years of continuous use has proved to me that it’s the best scrolling application for the Mac and surely second to none. I highly recommend it. Fariborz AMIRSHAHI - Verona (Italy)

Marc has always been punctual with updates when a new system is released but this time, he has even anticipated it. Thanks! This clearly shows his immense care and interest for all users who like me can’t live without this invaluable utility. If Smart Scroll doesn't open at login, or doesn't start, drag the helper application to the list of Login Items, in Users & Groups in System Preferences. Also drag it to the Privacy /Accessibility list, if needed. You can access the helper application by clicking on the ˇ sign on the upper right corner of the main Smart Scroll window.

I am a fan of Smart Scroll. However, with this version 4.4.3, it does not work with Safari 10.1.2. I tried it on two different machines, both with Mac OS 10.5.5 (yose). I restarted the Macs and restarted Safari but nothing helped. I went back to V 4.4.2 and that works smoothly and perfectly!

This is about Smart Scroll. Here's a question they asked me: I’m curious why you gave Smart Scroll only 3 stars, I suppose you've ran into problems. Would you please say what they are, so I get a chance to fix them? Here's my answer: I've had Smart Scroll since 2012. During that time, the thing that impressed/depressed me most of all about Smart Scroll was the lousy service. It has been virtually non-existent during most of that time. TODAY, I noticed that they were pushing the 4.3.9 version. Great, except-UNTIL TODAY--they have been trying to push the 4.1 version and I kept telling them that I have had that version for many years, so why are they calling it NEW? Well, I never got a satisfactory answer; in fact the last answer they gave me took about a week and was of no help at all. Good old Smart Scroll. (Some things never change) People have been known to grow old and die while waiting for an answer from them. Well, they'll give me no more gray hairs, because I won't be expecting anything from them ever again.

Smart Scroll is awesome. I primarily use it so I can engage scrolling with a button on my Wacom stylus, but there are lots of other handy features as well. The developer is a friendly guy and quick to fix any issues that pop up with system updates. Been using this for years and always happy to pay the very infrequent paid upgrades. Smart Scroll is in my macOS EDC list.

Hey, I've been using SmartScroll for a few years now and recently moved to Smooze. Here's why: 1. Auto scroll is a lot smoother., specially when slow short distance scroll is involved. I don't know what makes it choppy with SmartScroll but it always feels like it skips a few pixels when the cursor is close to the starting point. 2. Grab & Throw feature is a lot better there and and is also animated. Throwing a page is a different experience to what I was use to with SmartScroll. SmartScroll do have a setting for it but I never got it to work nor to feel natural. 3. Grab Scroll and Auto scroll can detect if you are hovering over links so pressing on a mouse button over a link will click the link instead of activating the scroll. 4. The animated scrolling customization options there is wild. I couldn't find any other app that animates scrolling that way. 5. Cheaper (Though I already paid for SmartScroll in the past I think it something that should also be mentioned) I'd love to see some if not all the above implemented into SmartScroll. Thanks

The issue that I am facing is the smooth ness in scroll is lost after the update, has any one observed the same.

For me, SS is a must. By itself the jerky scrolling action on my Kensingtom Expert trackball is terrible, SS is the only way I've ever found that smoothes it out. It used to be that every time a new OS was released SS broke and it took the developer several weeks to produce an upgrade, leaving me to struggle in the meantime. This time, the developer is very much to be congratulated for producing an upgraded version prior to the release of the Sierra GM, which eliminates this problem. This is a long overdue policy change!

Mainstay that continues to be an app that should be installed on every Mac. Vastly better scrolling options than Apple's built-in scrolling. The hover scroll feature alone is a pleasure to use once you get used to it. The developer continues to make sure it works with all the latest Mac OS versions and software over the years and is very diligent and responsive to customer requests over the years. This is one of the top 5 all-time third party apps on Mac. A must-have for Mac newbies and seasoned vets alike.

I use this application because it is the only application that can make my apple mouse work the way I want it to work and not the way Apple wants it to work. Not sure i like the idea of it being a preference pain. I prefer having it in the menu bar or dock or actually both for fast access. Going to the System preferences to get to Smart Scroll for me is a huge pain in the ****studio. It's funny how developers do these changes without asking users for their input or ideas. Still give it a 5 star rating.

The developer has released, and has posted on his web site, a public beta that works with v10.9.2.. Two observations: • The new SS is now a stand alone app, rather than a System Preference. • There is now a menu bar icon to access the preferences and check for updates. AFAIK, it works without issue, though one may still need to add or remove specific applications.

Stable, more options than you could ever want, a great value. BUT... the update process as documented in other reviews is really annoying. Ever time OSX is upgraded you must wait for the author to update the product as well. I'm a paid user and I keep coming back but when I need to use my trackpoint keyboard and smart scroll is out of service, I revert back to USB overdrive. That product hasn't had an update in two years and works no matter what version of OSX you are running.

This product is superb :-) but as I am a developer too and as already told I practically can only use it in the periods of time I am NOT in a seed of updates..... My personal suggestion is to advise correctly the user about untested configurations of the sys but to let him decide to use or not the program. This is only my opinion, I respect the developer behave, as I deeply appreciate his work. This is really the only system "add-on" I really miss when I cannot use it.

I love this product. I can't live without this product. I use a trackpoint keyboard with my Mac and I can't scroll without this product AFAIK. What irritates me about this product is its always behind on the updates and the developer won't let the product start if the running OSX version doesn't match the currently release. Marc has mentioned before that this is to ensure the integrity of the product. I understand on DOT revs that come out on a whim, this is fine, but with major OS releases, we've had the beta's and now the GM for a while now and to not have the final code ready on release day is why I dock one star. I don't know what other things Marc has going in his life, but I hope somehow the product can more closely match the release dates in the future.

I have been using successive versions of Smart Scroll for many years now. I rate it as an essential addition to my Macs. I have found the developer to be consistently diligent & competent, and he always replies to bug reports. By its very nature, it is certain to be incompatible with some versions of some apps. Simply turn it off for incompatible apps from within the prefs pane. The developer obviously can only test a tiny fraction of the countless millions of possible system configurations for compatibility. So revert to an older version of SmartScroll if that doesn't work. [You did save the older versions ?] So today I upgraded from 3.9.1 to 3.9.4, as v 3.9.2 & 3.9.3 did not work well for me.

Smart Scroll is on a very short list of apps that I own that I would not update to a newer Mac OS without it. It's that good, it's that vital. The developer is amazingly responsive to suggestions and you would do yourself an injustice to not closely look at all the options available including hover scroll, etc.

Every time there's a software update, I have to go without SmartScroll for a few days waiting for an update from the developer. Whilst I really like this software, it is getting really OLD that this still occurs. No other software on my Mac has this issue, just Smart Scroll. Why does it get broken with every update?

Can anyone tell me, does this enhance Lion scrolling in any way? (User for years, B.L. Unsure I can see any effect now.)

For years, I used Smart Scroll with success. Now, with Lion & Safari 5.1.3, I am unable to get 2 finger swiping to work. Customer support has been responsive, but still no joy. Oddly, 2 finger swiping works with Smart Scroll disabled, thus I am unable to use Smart Scroll as intended. I can but hope resolution returns with Mountain Lion or the next Smart Scroll release.

> Support for Super Scroll ... in Adobe Photoshop CS5 If only Adobe was this smart. This works for zooming in and out of images with force feedback. Once you learn to control it and adjust the coasting to your liking; it really adds another entire level of control to zooming in & out of images that saves you time and even makes it more enjoyable in the process. The developer making this feature work again in Photoshop CS5 is spectacular. If you don't understand what I'm talking about, I made a video of it in action a long time ago here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9aJsS5eCQo0 If you don't have Smart Scroll, my Photoshop is better than your Photoshop. (Sorry Windows users)

10.6.8 SmartScroll, Safari & Picasa ! Solution : décocher Auto Scroll. (À noter que l'auto-update et la recherche manuelle de nouvelle version ne fonctionnent toujours pas). Seul probleme fixé : décocher Hover scroll désactive enfin effectivement cette fonction dans Safari. Traduction approximative : Broken translation: I finally found what was blocking the enlargement of photos, slide show and navigating in Picasa with safari (and only Safari) : SmartScroll ! I'm a little angry  : what time wasted searching for the cause. And I see that the problem is not resolved from 3.9b to 3.9 ! Solution : you have to disable Auto Scroll. (Note that the auto-update and manual search of new version still does not work). Only problem fixed: to disable Hover scroll really finally deactivate this feature in Safari.

I've downloaded, installed, and am using v3.9.0. Just a "heads up" for other Lion users out there, you will need to pay a $7 upgrade fee for this new version. I had no problem with that because I'm pretty sure Marc had mentioned that "way back when" he started work on the changes needed for Lion compatibility. But I'd sort of forgotten that and there wasn't any notice I'd seen about the upgrade fee, so I was taken a bit by surprise. Still, I understand he's put a lot of work into making Smart Scroll work with Lion - and, so far, it's working great! Just be aware that if you're running Lion, you'll be asked to pay the $7 upgrade fee when you enter the SmartScroll System Preferences. There's also an "Evaluate" button if you want to try it out before paying. I think there's no charge if you are running an earlier version of OS X. You can run v3.9.0 without an upgrade fee in that case, I think.

The current Smart Scroll is still in Beta re 10.7.1. Now that the GM 10.7.2 has been seeded to developers, I can but hope Smart Scroll will continue to work when 10.7.2 is released to the public.

I think MacUpdate is losing a handle on this. Smart Scroll for 10.6.x is now up to 3.8.5 Smart Scroll for 10.7.x is now up to 3.9 b4

According to the product notes, this version is supposed to work with OS X 10.4 or later (I'm using 10.6); but the INSTALLER tells me that it requires Lion!

I just noticed that I now have a Smart Scroll Safari Extension v1.0. I don’t recall downloading and installing that, so I presume it was installed as a consequence of the v3.9b3 updater? I have no problem with having that, it just seems unusual for a standalone app to also have a Safari Extension. Also, I could not find this extension when searching the Safari Extension Gallery. What category is it in? Do others also have this extension or is it just moi?

I primarily use Super Scroll, so my comments re the other features/capabilities are inappropriate. But re Super Scroll & v3.9b3, it seems to work without issue on my 27", i7 iMac, 10.7.1. Thanks Marc! I look forward to the final/stable release (soon, I hope).

Well, Lion has just had an OS update and now my beta version of Smart Scroll, which was buggy in Lion, is completely broken again. I'm starting to worry that Lion may have broken Smart Scroll for good as the developer seems to be struggling to keep up with the new OS. Sure hope not, I love this app.
