This version has definitely corrected flaws verified in previous versions like jerky initial scrolling and as such. Many thanks to the developer. Fariborz AMIRSHAHI - Verona (Italy)

Truly worthy of its version number. Glad to have scroll wheel and multi-touch devices separated as I use both. It’s a beta, so I do not have concerns with its current state. Marc has always responded to my queries and is one of the smaller developers I support and hope to see in the Mac world for years to come.

So, in this version, I have to close the preference window every time I restart Smartscroll?! This is not a good idea. Please give an option to change this. Thanks.

I wrote to Marc about this issue. His reply is quoted below:

"I haven’t made this clear enough yet but the feature is there, if you close the preferences window the app icon should leave your Dock. And then to get the preferences again you can use the menu in the right hand side of the menu bar, under a small Smart Scroll icon."

What would be even more helpful would be if it could be set to open with this window shut at login so that one wouldn't need to close it manually to get rid of the dock icon.

Otherwise a great utility with superb support.

The developer has released, and has posted on his web site, a public beta that works with v10.9.2..

Two observations:
• The new SS is now a stand alone app, rather than a System Preference.
• There is now a menu bar icon to access the preferences and check for updates.

AFAIK, it works without issue, though one may still need to add or remove specific applications.

Sorry I rated the app, but the MacUpdate software forced me to do so. While I agree that the older version was neat, and was, overall, a very good app, I am not sure that is is proper to recommend an app that does not work with the present system. For Example should one really recommend a Haxie that has not worked in years?

Again v4.0b1 works fine (or at least seems to) with Sys 10.9.2 but again one cannot find it as a new update. I found it by going to MacUpdate, using the "Search Mac Apps" to find "SmartScroll", and then going to the developer page. There MUST be a better way.

Stable, more options than you could ever want, a great value. BUT... the update process as documented in other reviews is really annoying.
Ever time OSX is upgraded you must wait for the author to update the product as well.
I'm a paid user and I keep coming back but when I need to use my trackpoint keyboard and smart scroll is out of service, I revert back to USB overdrive. That product hasn't had an update in two years and works no matter what version of OSX you are running.

i have a big problem with 4.0b4 !

After some time surfing the CPU load of SmatScroll becomes huge and the only way to return to the normal is force quit. I can reproduce it every time, no matter what sites I visit, safari extensions enabled or not.

Does anyone else experience issues with Smart Scroll's Grab Scroll not working with either Echofon or Twitter for Mac?

It's very odd that the two apps that I have issues with are both Twitter clients. It's probably just a coincidence.

I see this issue in Reeder for Mac as well. I've been in contact with developer, who said he was going to look into the scrolling situation with these apps, but that was a month or so ago. Hoping to see this addressed soon, as I use both apps quite a bit.

Nice software, been using for a while now.
I was wondering if anyone can help me on this one: I've notices that on iTunes scrolling on Cover Flow with the trackpad up and down or with the scrolling wheel from the mouse doesn't work any more. When I turn Smart Scroll off, it works again. It doesn't seem to affect Cover Flow on open windows.
Thank you

Version 3.7b1 keeps crashing Safari 5 on my 1st-generation Core Duo iMac, running OS 10.6.3. The crash report gives a message to the effect that "Safari unexpectedly quit while using the Smart Scroll plugin." (I forget the exact wording.) After disabling the SS beta, Safari 5 became completely stable.

Trouble is, I can't revert to the previous stable version 3.6 of SS. All attempts to install it fail because of a message that there's a newer version (the beta) available. Attempts to restore SS 3.6 from Time Machine also fail. The pref pane won't start, and the troubleshooting steps recommended- permissions repair and .plist deletion- are ineffective.

So now no Smart Scroll. I weep.

I turn off Smart Scroll and the crashing ends.
