Buggy, unreliable, often awkward to use, plagued by questionable design decisions, and in desperate need of an update.
But it's still the best LJ client for Mac out there.
It's difficult to find a good, reliable LJ client. Xjournal is perfectible, but it works quite nicely. Rather easy to use and customizable. Last release works nicely with 10.5.6.
need help trying to find the folder where your live journal entries are saved to when you download your history...
anybody know?
i tried the library/application support/xjournal/history file, but nothing is in there.
this would be a great program if it made it obvious where these files are saved...
ack. but other than that it seems great.
Honestly, I'm gonna say that in terms of OS X, I've not been disappointed with anything more than the selection of LJ clients available. This one is by far the best, but that's not saying much. The bottom line is that it's unstable and crashes for what seems absolutely no reason, it lacks rich editing capabilities (and if it has 'em, I can't find 'em.) It's slow to login, it's awkward to use and most of the options are hidden. I've found managing things with it like you can with the visions client is close to impossible. Really, after about a week with XJournal I just gave up and started updating via the website again. A complete waste of my time and really not worth yours. The web-based update forms are much more user-friendly and versatile than this.

Really good apps, this certainly beats trying to edit in the Midas style editor on the website.
One things I'd really love to see it support for Fotobuilder/Scrapbook facilities.

I absolutely love the simplicity of and user interface of this app. It works great! I only have two complaints:
1) This is a minor thing, but add a button for the HTML preview for the toolbar. I know its already in one of the menus, but its something I do quite often while writing an entry, so it would help me a lot.
2) Add more font/color formatting support!!!! This is pretty important. I can't seem to change the color of different words/sentences/paragraphs within a post without manually typing in the HTML tags. Changing things in the font window affects everything in the post, not just a section. :-(
Keep up the good work! Oh, and I love the poll builder!
1.0.3 is still working very well for me. The developer did a good job of getting this out quickly, to address a glitch caused by the Mac OS X 10.3.9 update.
I really wanted to try this app out, but every time I click the menu bar, or use a menu shortcut (command-q for example) I get an alert that
"defaultUsername is nil in -[XJAccountManager defaultAccount]"
Thusly, this program I useless because I can't even access the menus in order to find a way to login and in effect set "defaultUserName" to some other value!
FANTASTIC APP!!! Really a great little gem. But, if i could ask for one teeny, tiny thing. Phoenix does this, and its the only reason i have it on my computer. I need to be able to pick and choose where i post my entries. i.e. to communities specifically. if you can implement that, it would be amazing-er.
The best LiveJournal Client I've used on any platform. Mac-like, intuitive, fast, powerful, feature-rich, and drop dead sexy. This is what Cocoa was built for!
Just as an update to prior comments, there is a new build of b15 which does work correctly on Jaguar.
The original, broken-on-Jag, build was v238. The new build is v244.
Download it by clicking the same Download Now link on this MacUpdate page.
Thanks.
A quick warning to 10.2 users. beta 15 doesn't seem to load on 10.2 machines. Otherwise this client has really turned out to be the best on the os x platform. And I was really looking forward to an 'edit last entry' shortcut. Hopefully this can be fixed
By far the best LiveJournal client. I really couldn't dream up a new feature for it. XJ integrates with LJ in every possible way, provides shortcuts for everything. It's smart, precise, well-organized, and even handles groups. I love it!
