Uno card game.

Overview

OneCard is a Cocoa card game with rules similar to Uno. It is fun for all ages from 5 up. In OneCard you try to play cards which match another card in color or value. There are also special action cards such as Wild, Skip, Reverse and Draw cards which make the game more interesting. The first player to get rid of all their cards wins the round. The winner then scores points based on the cards left in other players' hands and the first player to reach the goal score wins the game.

What's new in OneCard

Version 2.1:
  • You can now choose different rule variations in the preferences.
  • These include a rule allowing you to "stack" Draw Twos and Wild Draw Fours and to swap hands with other players when certain cards are played.
  • See the help files re preferences for more information.
  • Other minor changes and bug fixes.

Doesn't work! I tried to change the preference from 4 player to two player and it crashed. Now I can't open it. Threw away pref file and started over. Now it ignores my pref changes. Needs a lot of work. Nice interface though.

Ouch. Yet another way to spend to much time with my Macbook. Had no time for breakfast yesterday. Well done! Two minor things. It keeps complaining that I've got an unfinished game, which I don't have. And second, it would be a little closer to perfection if one would (have the option to) get a better visual indication of what card that is drawn from the pile.

This card game has quickly become my new favorite diversion. I enjoy playing against three computer opponents, but I also like those rapid fire games against one opponent. You can adjust the rules and scoring how you like. If you like card games on the computer, you should give this one a try. And you can't argue with the price!

OneCard is great. Tech support is on a level by itself. Only have one small issue to resolve yet. Well worth the download. ~Ron Lint

To the anonymous user, please email me at ewhan@mac.com and I'll help you. The dialog box asking if you want to start a new game only ever appears if there is a saved game in the preferences, so you might not be trashing the right preferences file. Search your hard disk for ALL copies of com.ewhan.OneCard.plist and delete them all. Also, the preferences system relies on keyed archiving, which is a Jaguar-only feature. You are running Jaguar aren't you? No-one else has ever reported this problem. Also if you email me your OneCard crash log, I should be able to find the problem. The crash log is in Users/yourName/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/.

I keep having to throw away the pref file. Most annoying. Now it flashes a dialog box that says start a new game, but it won't stay on the screen long enough for to click OK. It just comes and immediately shuts down.

Re the previous comment - changes made to the number of players in the Preferences aren't supposed to take effect until the next time you start a new game. However, if you change the number of players from the Options menu a new game will be started immediately. The saved game (which is stored in the preferences) does sometimes get corrupted and can cause a crash at launch, but I've never seen a problem with the preferences that couldn't be resolved by deleting the file. Also I've had reports that OneCard crashes under the Panther developer preview. I can't test/fix this myself at this stage as I don't have Panther.
