I don't meant to rain on the parade of a great utility (which I use myself) but it should be noted that in Leopard PDFs can be combined using Preview itself; see MacWorld April 2008, p. 83.
The demo version of Combine PDFs will combine the first 1000 pages for free; after that, you much purchase a license.
Download the demo from the developer's site.
Of the PDF merge apps I tested this one offered the most detail, the ability to remove a page in a large PDF was a nice plus (though you can do that in Preview), this app gives you a ton of options to change your PDF files before exporting, for my needs it was overkill but nice to know you have the option. Those features come at a cost though, $30 US, to much for what I needed.

Great job on this free utility! It did exactly what I needed it to do; now that Mac OS X 10.5 has this functionality, I will not have to use it, but I was stuck on a 10.4-powered laptop and really needed to combine some pages.
Only two things I could suggest: page numbering, as mentioned by another reviewer, would be sweet, as would the ability for the program to detect where in the list I am dragging and dropping the files. It automatically puts newly dropped files at the end of the list, but it would be nice if it let me insert it between two pages already in the list.
Great job, I owe the developer a mighty large beer.
This could NOT have been easier to use! Not only does it let you combine/merge PDFs, but you can see the original filenames and page numbers, re-arrange them, preview pages, AND delete pages.
Very nice job!
Just wanted to fax 9 separate documents I had scanned. Mac OSX's built-in fax system does not allow to do that in one shot. Then I came across this wonderful app. Just printed the docs as PDFs then merged them. Et voilà !
The program does exactly what it says it does...combine PDFs. And who can beat the free price? I love it and use it frequently. This is truly a gem of a program.
Excellent program! I love programs that do just one thing well, and this app fits that bill fantastically! I had 5 PDFs with varying orientations and such, and Combine PDFs quite simply "just worked".
The only reason that I'm giving it 4/5 instead of 5/5 is that it wasn't a simple drag and drop install, I had to create a folder for the app and the associated RealBasic file. Other than that one minor thing, it's perfect!
Great little app for free but I think it could do with one update. It would be good to be able to shift select files to add multiple pdf's at one time then have some up / down organize buttons to arrange the page order.
Simple! Easy! Intuitive! Great Mac app that simply does what it says. (Hint: If you don't have Real Basic, open the "Combine PDFs" app, that has a 3D icon.
What a fantastic bit of kit. I had trouble in producing a CV for a mate in Illustrator, then having the CV appear as 2 pages.
Found CombinePDF and it worked a treat. Simply select the various pages, in the order you want, and you're away. I never ever thought it could be this simple to use.
Thank you so much!!!
This application works straight out of the box, so to speak, and work well to boot!
Since I have several letter-size PDF files that I need to combine in different combinations every now and then, this program just makes it too easy for me to combine to my heart's delight.
This application rocks. 'Nuff said.
It's amazing when you have a problem on the Mac, most of the time someone has a solution. This is the app. I have bee looking for and was also the solution to my problem. Cool! Thanks!
Thank you, now I can export my excel workbooks the way they were supposed to be in the first place
If Microsoft just employed the guys that write these little fixers for us, instead of the armies of so called "professionals" I'm sure Bill gates would be President of the World by now
Great program and a life saver. combining multiple documents had never been easier. Extracting pages from PDFs is also great. Straight forward program and does the job very well. I LOVE IT.
It's great when you need to do something, look on Mac Update, and find an app like this that works perfectly with no hassles. And for free. Nice!
I know some people knock Real Basic, but this one does the job with ease. If it were Cocoa it might look prettier, but who cares. Thanks to the developer, this is very useful!
Although you can't select multiple files in the dialog box, you can drag multiple files into the app. (NB: No '+" is visible and the focus does not change as one might expect.)
Works great. I agree with the utility of selecting multiple PDF files in the dialog. But it's still pretty smooth and easy to use.
A great solution for dealing with Microsoft Word's wonderful tendency to save 8 separate PDF files from my print job!
Brilliant Application, allowed us to combine a friends daughters project of over 60 individual pdf's into 1 with ease.
Combine PDFs should allow multiple selection in the open file dialog as that would have sped the task up immensely.
