This program seems to run your saver as root, which is bad for more reasons than I can count. At least, that is what I am seeing - the saver (Random Web) runs fine by itself but when run from Background Saver the prefs get chown'd to root, as does my Safari cookies file.
This program has other bugs as well, such as misspellings in the menu bar. I'm trashing it and looking for something else.
This is some seriously sweet software. I discovered screensavers I'd forgotten I had on my iBook. After you install this, go to Google, type "macintosh screensavers" and investigate the links on your first page of hits. Some of these things are quite awesome. Plus they're free!
Cool program, you can also load your current screen saver as a background by typing:
/System/Library/Frameworks/ScreenSaver.framework/Resources/ScreenSaverEngine.app/Contents/MacOS/ScreenSaverEngine -background &
into a terminal (make sure it is 1 line not 4) Im not sure how but im sure it is possible to make an alias to load it by clicking.
If you are looking for this capability, try 'Backlight'. It puts a screensaver on the desktop and works smoothly and no problems. I haven't tried 'BackgroundSaver' so I'm not putting this program down... just offering an alternative
Both with this and the last release I have never been able to connect to any of the sites listed - either for downloading or to find out more information.
The software seems excellent - I just wish I could get a copy!
!!!!!!!!What??? But the installer haven't to connect to internet!!!! And it haven't code for it!!!!!! That is not logical at all!!! Are you sure???
Then, for BackgroundSaver, it's normal: there is an update fonction wich see if there is any available update. But this fonction is initialized for the first time when you launch BS.
I don't let applications (or installers) access the internet without my permission. If the author of this could explain why his installer wants to connect to "hecate.grec.isp.9tel.net", or better - remove that requirement, one might be more interested in continuing with the install.
