Emulator to play old 68k games on OS X.

Overview

Basilisk II is an open source emulator of 68xxx-based Mac computers for Windows, OS X and Linux. With Basilisk II, one can boot Mac OS versions 7.x through 8.1. Versions are also available for Linux and Windows.

What's new in Basilisk II

Version 1.0.20140301:

Note: Now requires OS X 10.6 - OS X 10.9 and running on a 64/32-bit Intel processor.

  • Performance improvements.
  • Support for disk images in sparsebundle format. See explanation and discussion in this topic: viewtopic.php?f=20&t=7974
  • Cursor grabbing toggle (Ctrl-F5). Pressing Ctrl-F5 will make the emulator grab the mouse cursor and keep it inside its window. Especially useful for some games. Again pressing Ctrl-F5 will release the cursor.
  • Window-Fullscreen toggle (Ctrl-Return). Pressing Ctrl-Return will toggle between window mode and full-screen mode.

This version runs great in the OS X 10.11.6 Beta too. I have 7.5.5 running on it. After a few minutes it makes me wonder how I used to spend all that time on my Powermac 6100!

This version is compiled as a Universal Binary, but on my Intel iMac it quits suddenly and unceremoniously part way through booting from my OS 8 CD. I have tried several different ROM files from Performas and Quadras, and consistently get the same poor results. Once-upon-a-time I had a version of Basilisk running on an old PowerPC machine. It was pretty crashy, but at least it ran a bit.

Did you remember to set RAM to 4 MB or 8 MB on Basilisk 19b, for OS 8.0, make sure your host computer have enough RAM to run on

Mine was doing that too. Try setting the CPU to 68030 (NOT 68040) and uncheck "with FPU".

It works almost great, the thing is that in tiger (10.4.2 ) , when I try to add another volume to mount, the application closes unexpectedly. I hope this is fixed soon

i also had the mouse issue, and the keyboard doesn't work either. this only happens in full screen mode - windowed mode works okay, albeit slow. other than that, a great emulator!

I made a version of Basilisk II with sound support, it's currently available at http://vasi.webhop.org.nyud.net:8090/files/BasiliskII-audio.zip If enough people like it, maybe I can eventually convince the main authors to include my sound support code.

i like it. it emulates 68k like i had it connected directly to my monitor. and i like being able to start it off with many OSes. But your emulator could realy use sound. That is the only flaw. otherwise Pretty good.
