Store passwords, serial numbers, contacts.

Overview

Wallet is a simple and easy-to-use password-storage application. Whether you keep contacts, passwords, serial numbers, or credit cards within Wallet, it stores and organizes them in a secure and easy-to-use environment. All database files are encrypted using 256-bit AES encryption to make sure any hackers or wandering eyes can't get a sneak peek at your data. Wallet has many other features as well, and can even "AutoFill" Web forms in your favorite browser. Wallet combines security, ease of use, and elegance in a password-storage application.

I like this much more than 1Password because it has an elegant interface which lacks the garish graphics that really turn me off to 1Password. However, syncing with the iPhone app simply doesn't work at all and there seems to be no support or interest from the developer to fix this problem. The developer is wasting a great opportunity to compete with 1Password by neglecting this application and not keeping up with OS changes. There have been no updates in a while and a growing body of unhappy customers. Such a waste since 1Password has proven there is a big market for this type of application. I'm giving 3 stars due to broken syncing and an awol developer.

Very disappointed by marketing tactics. I own version 3.4.1 (paid). When I saw that the newest version was 3.5 I thought (stupid of me, I guess) that the upgrade would be free. I downloaded the upgrade and installed it. Realizing that it was a paid upgrade, I decided to get back to my paid version (3.4.1). UNFORTUNATELY, the database would have disappeared (it resides on DropBox). The 3.4.1 version cannot open the newest version (3.5). I tried using TimeMachine but the older datafile on DropBox is nowhere to be seen. The ONLY way I can now use Wallet (and all my entered data) is by paying for the newer version. I think that if the developper has any kind of honesty in him, he would provide a conversion utility to revert back to 3.4.1 from 3.5, and also put a big warning about the fact that once you have opened your database with Wallet 3.5 you MUST purchase it (after 7 days) if you want to be able to access your data.

Been using this for years without problem. Recently it wouldn't connect via wifi to any of my devices. Wrote to developer & received a not so helpful reply. Tried this version and it doesn't even open. Moving on.

Another version, which claims to fix problems. But $30? It hasn't worked properly for so long. Maybe for $10 I'd give it another try, because I miss it.

Jeez, t seems to much effort for this developer to have this latest version 3.3 as demo as well :(

Upgraded to version 3.3 with the version 2.0 Safari extension. Now Safari has trouble accessing the password database even after entering the PIN to link it to the Wallet app. The app works fine and the extension in Chrome works as well. I'm running Mac OS X 10.7.5 and Safari 6.0.4.

Same problem here! Hoping for an update soon as Safari is my primary browser! Glad to see they fixed the z-index on it however... I work in wordpress and it would always pop-up behind the wordpress toolbar!

Like you Dumond, I had trouble with WordPress login. I just turned off the option to add to Wallet. Great that I can switch that back on.

Was experiencing problems after installing the new 2.0 extension for Safari. Didn't know about the PIN entry after contacting developer. He replied within 6 hours. Here's what he wrote: Wallet for Mac 3.3 requires new version of the Wallet browser extensions (v2.0). The extensions can be updated automatically from Safari or Chrome, or downloaded from our website: http://www.acrylicapps.com/wallet/extensions/ Inversely, the latest version of the Wallet extensions, which can update automatically, require Wallet for Mac 3.3. Once installed, clicking the new extension will ask for a pairing code and should launch Wallet for Mac automatically. Unlock Wallet to receive a 6-digit pairing code, then enter this code in your browser. If the pairing code does not work or you did not receive a pairing code, head to the Wallet Preferences (Wallet > Preferences… in the menubar), select the "AutoFill" tab, and make sure "Enable Browser Extensions" is checked. If it is already checked, try unchecking it, waiting 10 seconds, and then checking it again. If Wallet isn't syncing over your entries properly (i.e. you see "No Entries" when clicking the Wallet extension), try uninstalling and re-installing the Wallet extension, then repeating the steps above. ----- I have to say it took me several attempts on two Macs to get it working. Few uninstalls and restarts later, they're working fine now. Well pleased to say the least!

Pasi: I have been chatting by email with the developer. After doing some of the things you have done, now the extension will not accept the PIN (Safari or Chrome extension).

Yeah, I'm having the same prob now. At first it paired up with safari, but I later found it out it didn't work... It would tell me no passwords exist for the site I'm at, when I know it's in there... I scrapped it all and tried from scratch... Now it won't pair up for either browser... Guess I'll keep at it! :(

I initially also had the problem of not being able to enter anything in the PIN request field...but after several attempt I got it working. I think a full reboot in between uninstall and install finally did the trick. I have to note that after installing the Safari extension...clicking the Wallet button in Safari, didn't automatically launch Wallet (i think I still have the non-AppStore version) like developer wrote. Sometimes I also had to press the button several times to get the PIN-entry to show or the get the response code to show in Wallet-app. Best of luck with it, hope you both get it working!

End of life... Acrylic sold out to Facebook and has abandoned Wallet & Pulp. I feel ripped off as the Wallet export function doesn't allow for an easy migration to a similar product from another developer.

I think that is a harsh AND true assessment. I'm extremely disappointed because Wallet is one of those products that was quite well-built, but I experienced POOR support responsiveness when I ran into problems, which is echoed by previous reviews here. Having to send multiple emails over the course of months to get a reply is unacceptable. I should have read other unfavorable reports beforehand when thinking long-term. The upgrade to 3.x gave me some hope, but then... more silence. What is also very distasteful is that the Acrylic site doesn't contain prominent mention of this dead-end, end-of-life. The link to their blog is currently broken. The product pages don't mention "not actively supported". That compounds the disconnect of poor — or non-existent — communication. More people are well-served by being aware and checking out products that *are* being supported like 1Password. I'm evaluating alternatives, but if if I had the benefit of hindsight, I wouldn't have chosen Wallet.

As of May 2013, the developer issued updated versions of Wallet. If this indicates continuing support, I couldn't be happier. I find Wallet to be much superior, simpler to use, and substantially less costly, than 1Password.

Ok, after a couple of emails, they responded and were most helpful. And the new version released today seems to have fixed the synching problem on Lion. I had already gone and bought another app, but will stick with Wallet. It's simple and works (again) for me.

Beware. I cannot export any of my data using of the built-in format options. I have e-mailed the developer twice in the past year and have never heard back from him. All of my data (thousands of records) are stuck in Wallet because none of the export options work. This may not happen to you, but if a problem does come up, don't expect to get it handled.

Wallet is awesome! In fact, i just used the "Autofill With Wallet" function of the safari extension to login to macupdate just now, on my new iMac running lion. I'm quite impressed of how often it seems to "just work" actually. In my experience, it also offers to save the login information most (if not all) of the time, when a website haven't yet been added to wallets database. The developer just released an update to support Lion, which shows Wallet is still in active development. In fact, it's updated quite regularly it would seem. Not so often it's irritating, but often enough for bugs to be ironed out, and to show it's still in business :) I have it synched to my iPhone, also running wallet, which has saved me a couple of times, when i needed access to a few sites that are password protected, on the go. Wallet has a perfectly passable application icon, and the UI in general is quite well put together IMHO. Good work mr developer :) Looks is important, at least to me! Last, but not least, this is one of the very few applications that offer a trial/demo of the application, before buying it from the MAS. Very nice IMHO! I wish more developers did that. Perhaps the developer doesn't answer support emails, i wouldn't really know, because i haven't yet had the pleasure of sending him/her/them a support request. So i can't help you there, i'm afraid! In short, if you can be without firefox integration, and looking for something cheaper than 1password, wallet is certainly worth a try IMHO.

Oh dear! I'm a Firefox user, and Wallet appears to be compatible with only Safari and Google Chrome. I don't use Safari, because its tab settings are limited; and I haven't tried Google Chrome. Maybe I should. Firefox is a very popular browser, so the developer really ought to include it.

Doesn't ask to save passwords when I enter them on websites. Tried both in Safari and Chrome (extensions installed). Too bad. I wanted to replace 1Password so badly. And thank god I tried the trial version first. Would be a disappointment if I bought it.
