Incredible!
I've been trying to empty the trash for days now without avail, even the usual restart then empty did not work on this one, and none of the other methods work.
I ran this script once and splendor! the trash is empty.
this is a very good tool.
When I run the program, I get the following error message:
rm: /Users/rich/.Trash*: No such file or directory.
How to I move the .Trash directory to user "Rich"? That should fix the error...right?
Yeh this program is decent, iv been trying to get rid of a file in my trash for ages and this done it straight away. Small and easy to use with a click of a button.
Works fine :-)
With Panther you can also choose "secure empty trash" (Finder-> Secure Empty Trash) and it will empty your trash even if the file is in use.
I am using OS 10.3
Well, I am asked for my 'administrator' password in order to launch the program.
I set my system up without a password since I am the only one using it.
The program refuses to allow access if I leave the 'password' blank.
So??? I am stuck.
worked very well with Panther ! Surprisingly simple and extremely effective ... had a problem wih a stubborn JPEG file that was reported to be in use everytime I tried to delete it. Could not even modify and save it just to make something with it...
But this little gizmo blew it away from my trash >:).
Cool stuff!
I tried other programs and nothing would work. however, this program chaged the atrributes and forced emptied a file that said it was in use even after rebooting. Great program. Thanks.
Well, it errored twice telling me first that the directory was not empty (Uh... duh, if it was empty I wouldn't need this app), and then on the second run that my ~/.Trash directory didnt exist.
After that I opened my aparently not emptied trash, and saw nothing in it. I deleted a test file & it was deleted immidiately without going to the trash. I then deleted a second test file & it went into the trash & I am able to retrieve or delete without any problem.
Its a little funky to try to use, but that may have been my particular trash problem. Overall it did the job, just took a little fiddling to get there.
Thanks for the free help.
I've had some pesky hidden files related to Appleworks that wouldn't delete from the trash and this little app got rid of them instantly when even CanMan wouldn't do the trick. Very nice, it's so easy to use!
Thank you! I finally found something that could get rid of that pesky file for me! (Like the readme said, the Trash icon still looked full, but if you click on it a couple times it will switch to empty.. that's not a big deal at all though) I use OS X 10.1.
How would you rate Force Empty Trash app?
