PinPoint helps you locate your pointer on the screen by displaying an animated graphic of your choice around it. It is great when you have many monitors or to work outside in the sun on your MacBook or for people with visual disabilities. The new version is only available through the Mac App Store, but for users of Mac OS X below 10.6.6, you can still get the older version from the www.macchampion.com web site. No upgrade path to move to 3.5 though because of completely different copy-protection systems and until there is an upgrade option on the MAS.
I tried PinPoint for a few days, and was finding it somewhat useful with my dual 30-inch monitors, but what convinced me was when I fired up Photoshop and was retouching a photo that was mostly gray asphalt. Adobe still hasn't given us the option of changing the cursor to a colour other than gray, so here I was struggling to find the healing brush when I remembered that I installed the PinPoint trial. I activated PinPoint (I have it off most of the time), and was able to see the cursor no matter what the background.
Things I like about PinPoint include a wide range of different cursor styles and the ability to tweak the appearance of the cursor, a hotkey option to toggle PinPoint on and off (which is how I use it), and the option of hiding the menubar icon. I have fund that occasionally it doesn't toggle on or off properly, but an extra press of the hotkey usually fixes that.
What I would like to see is a monochrome menubar option (the red icon bugs me), and a "Toggle" command in the menu that drops down when the menubar icon is clicked (for those times when it's awkward to use the keyboard hotkey combination, or for when the hotkey doesn't properly toggle the cursor).
The Mac App Store doesn't allow demo versions, but developers are free to provide a trial version on their web site. If you visit our web site at www.lagentesoft.com, you will be able to download a 7-day trial version to try it out.
Ah, the beauty of a demo. The demo just convinced me to buy it. With Lion on the horizon and the very real threat of the loss of Rosetta, I didn't know what I would do without my old "Screen Crosshair" program (which is PPC only). I wrote that developer, but their e-mail is defunct. But PinPoint gives me the same feature (and is a bit zippier). And the price is right. So, you just made a sale.
This is one great little tool for me! I use multiple monitors and this makes it so easy to find my pointer. They keep improving it too, more so now than with the older versions. does a lot more than mouse locator, although that one is free. But I find that encouraging these friendly people makes me feel like they will support it longer. Te full screen crosshairs are very visible and useful on my two screens. And I like the animations it provides although some are a bit too flashy for my taste. Sme are subtle and you can control them too. A real winner for me!
Hi! We understand this, and actually, based on this very coment, we created a new 7-day trial version! You can download it here: http://www.lagentesoft.com/Lagente_Software/PinPoint_files/PinPointTrial.zip Hope this helps! - Marcie
As seen in the comments above and soon in the description, we have a new trial version! Thanks to this and other comments. We love to hear from you and update our products! Let us know what you think!
Well, this is an old comment, but we thought we'd give you an update. Although the previous ownser are fine folks, we have taken PinPoint to a new level with version 3.6. Feel free to try out the new Trial Version and let us know what you think! You can actually now use the same pointers as in Mouse Locator if you like, and no, ours is not free, but at $2.99 it might be worth it for you and ensure ongoing development and new features. We have many exclusives, like the full screen crosshairs, animations, visual keyboard and more!
This has been fixed eons ago of course, thanks for the feedback (yes, we know this is an old comment, just cleaning things up here... move along, nothing to see here :-)

I looked at many other similar programs, many
of them free. In the end, Pin Point offered the best feature set for my needs. It's elegant and problem-free. I paid for Pin Point today.
When you consider spending $10 or so on a special application to locate the cursor you may want to reconsider spending that money towards getting some new spectacles. Just move your "lost" cursor toward the dock and then move back and forth until it becomes rather obvious where the little bugger is. This is ridiculous. I'd rather buy a pizza.
