PCGen is a character generator and maintenance program aimed at supporting any and all d20 roleplaying games - most notably Dungeons and Dragons (3rd Ed., Wizards of the Coast), Star Wars (Lucasfilm Ltd.) and an assortment of others. It can help you quickly create a new character or convert old ones, and it has the ability to generate character sheets and even party sheets through the use of templates (a variety of html templates are provided).

Version 5.16.4: Release notes were unavailable when this listing was updated.
If it includes Star Wars, Call of Cthulhu, Modern, WW, and many of the tournament functions (RPGA, etc), this would be an excellent tool.
I'll try this out and give it a review, but I have yet to find a program (including those for windows) that come close to the Filemaker 5.5 set I created for tournament generation years ago. I could never share that because it's so full of non-standard methods, it would be a nightmare for anybody else to use. However, it does one thing I've never seen anywhere else, full and complete user created forms... just add a new layout and spend some time moving fields around and adding art.
PCGen fully supports all D20 based game system. However, due to licensing requirements, the copyright works of many publishers cannot be included with the general distribution. Some publishers allow third parites to seel these data sets. Regretfully, LucasFilm does not currently license any data sets for the Star Wars D20 RPG, so, none are currently available.

Doesn't include Star Wars d20 as of yet (problems with LucasFilm copyright or something). They should amend their description to note that it doesn't support SW d20 yet...
Other than that, very nice software, I love the fact that it supports 3.5e (although a few bugs with exporting character sheets to pdf), and that the source files are editable so you can create your own custom items.

I've been using PC Gen for quite a few generations, and they've gotten better and better, no doubt. There are still a few issues with screen layout and sizing and whatnot that have never been resolved, though. Still, it's the best set of D&D software out there, bar none.

While it is very good it is extremely hard to use in the beginning and takes some time to lear. Overall however its good enough for me.

Good job, it is better and better and now it is usable to generate a character. D&D III rules and this freeware is the best for d20 players. Keep on updating the tool.

A bit slow but it picks up as you do more with the app (may be a Java thing). Many many features and beautiful html and pdf character sheets.
Many complain about inclusion of material but that's the lawyer zone and should be a rating marker for the application itself.

WARNING! This update sucks. They removed Star Wars doc.
This application is plainly superior to any d20/D&D/e3 character builder produced for free or for money, including the Wizards of the Coast/TSR "Character Generator" (the demo is free in the back of their Player's Handbook).
PCGen continues to become better and better with each version that is released. OS specific builds for OS X (like the one found here) run better than the pure Java.
[Version 4.1.5]
