Have you downloaded it? Tried it? I doubt it!
Yes, there are many programs out there that manage your video collection. But Coollector's approach is unique. It's the only one that works the way it works.
I have downloaded and tried DVD Hunter, and here are the differences:
1) You launch DVD Hunter for the first time, and you're in front of an empty database.
You launch Coollector for the first time, and you're immediatly in front of an impressive movie database of nearly 90,000 movies, with cast info, pictures, IMDb popularity and rating, etc... Even before managing your movies, it's fun to browse the database, rate the movies you've seen (even if you don't own them) and discover new movies.
2) with DVD Hunter, you'll have to add each movie one by one, and input ALL the data (I'm amazed it doesn't even include a feature to import data from the internet).
With Coollector, all the data is already there. With a single click you can rate the movies you've seen. If you have videos files on your computer, the program can scan your hard disk and add them automagically. And for your physical medias (DVD, BLU-RAY, etc...), you can use our database of existing videos (yes, Coollector includes both a movie database and a database of existing videos).
3) DVD Hunter is so basic that it's not really to that kind of program that I wanted to compare Coollector. I meant to compare it with the most advanced programs who fetch the data from the internet. Well, Coollector is different from those programs because Coollector is movie-centric, while those other programs are all video-centric. If you search "Inception" in coollector, you get to that movie page, which includes a list of existing videos. If you search "Inception" with another program, you'll have to choose from the xxx videos that will be shown as a result.
For what it does, it's not surprising that DVD Hunter is free. And it's your right to like it. But many users won't be cheap and will prefer to pay and get a more powerful program.

If I judge you on your score of -148, you're a troll. Are you a troll ?

This FREE program is amazing!! Able to scan the UPC barcode using Mac's camera. This program will retrieve data on DVDs, Blu-rays, VHS tapes AND audio/music CDs. A nice surprise!!

> Devotion beyond the call of duty.
You can go to our support forum, and you'll see that we also receive a lot of praise from our satisfied customers.
What's the point of your attitude ? You don't even test the programs you talk about. You call me a liar about a fact that is absolutely true. You belittle my program only because it's not free.
Don't you have better things to do with your life ?

Issues with overall functionality:
No preferences for the app. What this means is each and every time you input a new video you must choose genre, country, etc. You can't set default values for these fields.
Search requires use of the escape key to exit the text input. I don't think I've ever seen that before in any app.
Many input windows require multiple superfluous clicks.
Scrolling any list via scroll buttons is like scrolling through mud. They are at least 1/4 the default scroll speed.
Can't double-click a video to edit it's information.
It's an okay app, but appears to be in the initial development stages. Surely this isn't what's considered a polished release.
Not sure I'd pay $13 for it in its current state.

> you must choose genre, country, etc.
Sorry, but this comment doesn't make sense. The genre and country are movie informations, not video informations. The genre and country are stored in the movie database, and you can't change them. The videos have several informations that you can adjust, like the media type, the language, etc... but not the genre and country.
> Search requires use of the escape key to exit
> the text input.
It's not true. You seem to have tested the program in a hurry.
> Many input windows require multiple superfluous clicks.
Which windows ?
> Can't double-click a video to edit it's information.
Looks like you make a confusion between movies and videos. The movie panel has an owned videos box and an existing videos box. You can click any video to get more detailed information about it, add it to your collection, edit the details of your owned videos, etc...
Please read again the description of the program to understand the concept. Coollector Movie Database is very different from everything that exists, and I admit that it can be confusing if you're used to other programs.

This problem is now fixed. Thank you for your feedback.

One thing that's missing that is a real downer for me and others is that there is no direct email contact info given. To ask a simple question about a feature or minor problem you have to sign up for their forum and post it there. I feel much more comfortable being able to contact the support group directly rather than in a public forum.
Also there is no info on the developer's web site about the company, the principals, or anything about their experience and expertise.

About the online documentation, the Mac version is brand new, we haven't reworked the doc yet. Not too big a problem, as the Mac and Windows version work the same, only the look is different.
About our experience and expertise, what can I say ? We're not a consulting company. We've been working on Coollector Movie Database for many years. It is and will always be our only project. We won't abandon it and move on to something else, like some companies do. We have so many plans for the program, and the concept allows so many developments... it'll keep us busy until we're old :)

Actually I overlooked the chance that a PM on the forum might be possible. Thanks for mentioning that possibility. I'll head over there and see what happens. :-)
Clicking on the smiley to the right for you!

And you've proved my point... your question was interesting, and the answer I gave you could have benefited others if it hadn't been private.
