Mou is a Markdown editor - with a difference: where most, if not all, currently available Markdown editors are almost all for general writers, Mou is different: It's for web developers. Syntax highlighting, live preview, fullscreen mode, auto save, powerful actions, auto pair, live find, custom themes, HTML export, enhanced CJK characters support. I know, it's exactly the app you want.
What's New
Version 0.7.1:
  • Extra syntax support - Strikethrough, Fenced Code Blocks, Tables.
  • PDF format export.
  • New Strikethrough Action.
  • New "Play Keypress Sound" option.
  • Auto indent tabs and spaces.
  • Auto fill/delete List and Blockquote marks when hit "Return" key.
  • Lion's native Versions, Auto Save, and Resume support.
  • New option in preferences where you can turn off/on "Check Spelling While Typing" by default.
  • Uses h1 as title of exported HTML files. If there's no h1, uses first 80 characters of the content.
  • Uses current .md's filename instead of "Untitled" as the placeholder filename for HTML and PDF export.
  • When you have content selected and then press (, [ or ", it can now wrap selection automatically.
  • Improved auto pair algorithm for Chinese Full-width "double quotation marks".
  • Renamed "Make Layout Vertical" to "Vertical Writing".
  • Added a shortcut key for the Markdown Syntax Reference, command+R.
  • Updated Markdown Syntax Reference to explain how to use the Extra syntax.
  • Changed "Export HTML"'s shortcut key to option+command+E, command+E should be used for "Use Selection for Find".
  • Removed auto pair for ` key for the convenience of inputting GitHub style Fenced Code Blocks. Command+K still works.
Version 0.7.1:
  • Extra syntax support - Strikethrough, Fenced Code Blocks, Tables.
  • PDF format export.
  • New Strikethrough Action.
  • New "Play Keypress Sound" option.
  • Auto indent tabs and spaces.
  • Auto fill/delete List and Blockquote marks when hit "Return" key.
  • Lion's native Versions, Auto Save, and Resume support.
  • New option in more...

i'm no developer or writer but just recently learned the markdown basics to post on a forum.

out of curiosity, i tried writing markdown in bbedit, nvalt, byword, ia writer and mou and they all fulfill my really basic editing needs.

strangely, mou is the only app that gives me a warm feeling and puts a stupid smile on my face, while using it. it's like it's made of drugs or candy or something. i can't explain the lure.

since i already use nvalt, i really don't need an extra app but... i just can't uninstall mou... the lure... too strong... must resist... before... it's too late...

This app convinced me to learn Markdown.

An option to show the HTML source instead of (or in addition to) the rendered preview would be nice for a Markdown beginner like me!

Lion only kind of sucks but the icon is reminiscent of the original Starbucks logo (e.g. lady with legs agape).

The option to send HTML to clipboard would be great.

It's already possible. Use the menu "Actions" - "Copy HTML".
In this way it will copy the HTML code to clipboard.

How very sad the developer chose to remove support for Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. Instantly limits this app to a much smaller segment of the market.

Here's the old version that works on Snow Leopard:
http://mouapp.com/download/Mou_0.6.6.zip

For new version, some features are implemented using Lion API, so it requires Lion to run.

Can you add the ability of adding javascript file to the rendered html file.
I would like to use Mathjax in it to render Math along with markdown.

i recommend Mou. a quick markup tool, for brainstorming, and of course for serious developing. I love the app's balance of style and simplicity. it's just right. clean-cut, can't wait for the updates.

Does anyone know how to permanently disable "Check Spelling While Typing"? I have turned off "spelling auto-correction" in System Preferences, but apparently this doesn't change anything in Mou.

There'll be an option in preferences of Mou 0.7.1 to disable "Check Spelling While Typing".
