UberMask hides files and folders on your Mac, quick and easy.
Use UberMask, a MacWorld MacGem 2011 pick, to hide your private data from curious eyes with cyberspeed. And there is no chance that your family members, collegues or friends stumble across your files and folders when using your Mac.
Even Spotlight will not find your hidden data!
Neither the Finder nor Spotlight will be able to detect the hidden data. You can always run UberMask to see which files are hidden thoughout your disks, to hide more files or to reveal
I had posted I had a problem with the 2.0.2 update. The support people were incredible! Quickly responded to my problem, we exchanged several e-mails as they guided me through a process to see if we could locate the missing file. Did not find it but it was an inconsequential one because I was experimenting to see how the program worked. Helped me with another question. Did this over several days. Excellent support. Great little program. I highly recommend both the program and the developers!
Don't know if my erroneous clicking the stars posted or not. This is the actual one.
I'm definately interested in the new multiple partition and volumes feature, but is there an upgrade fee from version 1 to 2.0? Dev's website doesn't seem to mention this.
Wow. I thought this was a good program but it didn't work on partitions/drives separate from the OS. For me, that was a deal breaker.
This obviously passionate developer solved that problem with a very cool update. It's blazing fast and brainless to use.
This appears to be a good program fairly well executed. However, it's almost useless for me because IT ONLY WORKS ON THE SYSTEM VOLUME.
I realize not everyone utilizes partitions for ease of backup, maintenance, etc., but I do and most of my sensitive data is on volumes other than the OS volume—the same drive, but different partitions.
thank you for your review here. I am sorry that you did not have had the time to test the free demo version Mac Update provides with the links above. Just one question: If UberMask works well on the drive - what is the reason for a one star rating? Normally you rate a software on how it works and not on how you want a software to be. This is neither fair play for the software developer, nor for other customers.
Don't get me wrong: I do not mind if you critizise the lack of multiple drive support or demand such a feature. But then please do not use the rating feature.
I also bought it too quick... I use a SSD startup-disk in my MBP and my homefolder is on the regular drive. Alas... UM doesn't work then.
Nova Media: any chance this could be changed in the future?
Support for more partitions/drives would be huge. This app is easy to use and well written, but that one limit (no doubt related to Apple's system) is problematic.
Hi Dale. Could you contact me at fuellemann@novamedia.de ? We will have the support for more partitions soon and I would love to hear your feedback on the new version...
(Written in Dutch)
At first it did what it said on the tin. Then the app started to "forget" which files it had hidden. Luckily I was able to find another app to un-invisible *all* of the invisible files on my computer, then I used Terminal to manually remove the invisible-creating dot at the beginning of the file name.
When it works flawlessly, it will be useful. For now, I'd rather not risk losing track of my files and directories again.
Hello, sorry for the hassle. When you open ÜberMask, you can use the "Scan HardDisk" command to let all files show, which have been turned invisible by ÜberMask. So you do not have to use a separate tool. I wonder why ÜberMask forget things - I did not happen in our tests. Did you use any kind of system tools like Cocktail or similar? Or did you restore a backup? It would be nice if we could solve this. Anyway, just drop me a line at info@novamedia.de
Thank you for the quick reply. I tried the Scan Hard Disk function twice, and neither time it was able to see the directories that I had hidden with ÜberMask.
I used inVisibles 1.5 to reveal all of the invisible files on my drive.
Could there be a problem with hiding a directory that has a space in the name? Both of the problem directories contained two words.
thank you! As it is around 9 pm here, I will talk to the developer tomorrow about this issue. I do not think a space in the filename is relevant but I am sure the developer has a few more questions and suggestions.
we have an idea. When you hide files using ÜberMask and then use a tool to show you all hidden files, you will see an alias of each file hidden by ÜberMask.
If you delete this alias, which is normally not visible, then the information gets lost, that this file is managed by ÜberMask. And thus ÜberMask forget things.
Do you know if you used another tool to make hidden files visible? Or restored a backup?
No, I did not knowingly delete any aliases for the hidden files.
I had a thought, though: You have a function called "Release." Does this tell UberMask to un-hide an object, or to no longer track its visible/hidden status? I was confused between "Reveal" and "Release". Perhaps I clicked the wrong one?
the latest versions of UberMask did fix this bug. You can download and install it, all further hidden files will not be affected any more. If there are still files not to be found, they are still there - please contact me at fuellemann (at) novamedia.de for a solution.
Hi. I am glad this software is used by customers all over the world :-) And I am willing to give away a free license for the first post in any language which has not been used for an UberMask review yet. So go ahead and review the demo, post a review in english and mail me at info@novamedia.de :-))
Tooles Tool, einziger Wehmutstropfen - 19,95 EUR...

Hide all selected data with a simple key stroke
Choose a hotkey combination and activate it anytime to hide your data. The UberMask app does not have run or be launched for the hotkeys to operate. It works like magic and keeps your conscience clean whenever your Mac is used by someone else.
Mac|Life Rated: Good If you're a secret keeper, ÜberMask is useful and inconspicuous. It's not hacker-proof, but it'll certainly keep your confidential files and folders safe from the prying eyes of coworkers, kids, or your partner.
For Mac Eyes Only Rated: 4 out of 5 Macs If you have need for something like ÜberMask for simple file security, then I recommend giving it a try. Yes, this is something you could do on your own without ÜberMask, but this app makes it easy to do, meaning it's more likely you'll do it.
