Incredibly slow and buggy. I tried to use this program to synchronize folders on two Macs (after getting the license in a bundle), and gave up in frustration. Even if you get it running (about once in every four tries), it takes forever to set up a sync, and then you can go to bed, sleep for eight hours, have breakfast, and it is still not done syncing 200 MB of data.

Useless.

I have found this program to be unstable -- either it crashes my computer or the program simply goes into a state of (Not Responding). Backup is simple and essential and not worth wasting time with a program that does not do it well.

A very simple, very good utility.

We use it for it's synchronize function only, which is essentially a front-end for "rsync." Nevertheless it allows us to synchronize projects across various edit suites without the need for a more complicated SAN.

It's also very accessible for novice "network" users.

We originally were introduced to it through a MacUpdate Promo bundle and while I was skeptical about it at first, it's one of the utilities we continue to use, year after year.

If you're looking for something quick to synchronize multiple directories or projects and only need file-comparison (not diff ability) this may be worth trying out.

This does not seem to be able to back up to my ftp server. It says it can back up to networked drives, but when I have my server mounted on the desktop, it sees it and I can specify the folder to backup to, but it gives an error when trying to backup. I guess backing up to a server is different than a networked drive, but still disappointing as it would be nice to have off-site backup of my files without using a service like Mozy.

Unfortunately backup to FTP is not supported yet. We may add such feature in the future, but I can not promise anything at this stage.

Also wish there was a "Synchronize All" button, rather than having to do it individually for each project. I know you can set schedules, but I want to only sync manually when I have my laptop turned on.

The cloning feature seems a bit limited I can only seem to clone one drive to my back up disk at a time, for some reason it has to delete the entire back up drive before cloning what is up with that? With Super Duper you can clone more than one drive to the back up disk

Regarding deleting files from destination disk, it's true that Get Backup deletes everything when a clone is created. Imagine you do a second and third cloning into that disk, you will end up with lots of unnecessary files from previous clones, if no files are deleted from the destination disk. If you have files on destination disk that you want to preserve, I suggest you create a separate partition for cloning. This way your older files will be on another partition, and will not be deleted.

Regarding your concern about not being able to clone two or more drives. We haven't done this for two main reasons. Program performance may suffer if two cloning are done simultaneously. But what's more important is that user interface will make it hard for users to set clone properties, as well as control what files are included/excluded from cloning.

By the way, you can clone several drives by setting up two or more projects in clone tab.

I guess I was hoping for the same sort of functionality as superduper where I would be able to clone sparse bundle images of my various drives to my backup drive but it doesn't seem to be the case.

You are right this is not available yet, but we are working on adding sparse bundle images. I hope this feature will be added in one of the following updates. But they will not be bootable backups.

I bought this program as part of the MUPromo Bundle 2010. I had high hopes for it as I'd been looking for a backup solution for a while.

I'm running Snow Leopard and, to date, I have only been able to get it to launch correctly once. During this time it DID make a successful backup, however every other time I've tried to launch it, it becomes unresponsive before I even see the interface.
When I did run the program it did not appear to be a native Mac program - the titlebar looked mac-like, however it was coloured differently to a standard Mac app, and the interface seemed sluggish and unresponsive, not to mention the very odd UI elements. Despite this, for the price-point, if the application had continued to function without problems I would have been content.

A backup program needs to perform solidly, and this program does not seem to. It is not clear to me exactly what the problem is. I have downloaded the disk image a number of times from different sources and transferred the .app to the applications directory. With only the one successful launch.

I'm seriously disappointed with this product. I hope their is a bug fix or some type of solution to the problems I'm experiencing so I can at least have a working product. Otherwise for me, this is a waste of time and money.

  • Produce compressed, encrypted backup archives of your data.

  • Keep files in sync on two computers in one network.
  • Automate backup, cloning, and sync processes.

Watch a quick video tour of Get Backup Pro.

Features:
  • Bootable Backups via Cloner When a hard disk crashes, one of the most frustrating things is that in order to copy over backed up files you must wait for a replacement hard drive and then go through the tedious restore process. The Cloner in Get Backup takes an external hard disk and turns it into a bootable copy of the disk in your Mac. So no need to wait for the replacement. You can place the clone right into your Mac and even work using the external disk until your replacement arrives.
  • Automate Backup and Sync Processes The customizable schedule tool allows to fully automate the backup and synchronization processes, so that backups are built and sync takes place on a regular basis (daily, weekly, biweekly or monthly). Specify the backup and sync start time down to a minute. You can even create separate schedules for several backup and file sync projects.
  • Back Up to CD/DVD and Any Mounted Device/Drive The program allows you to save backups to any locally mounted device/drive, including FireWire, USB, ATA, SCSI, CD and DVD devices, or network volumes.
  • Integration Integration with Apple iPhoto, Mail, iTunes and Address Book makes it very easy to access and backup your music, photos, e-mail and address records. Also, you can easily backup any other file or folder stored on your computer.
  • Data Sync Synchronize files and folders on your laptop and desktop computers, or any mounted drive. Two-way synchronization (Pro only) ensures that you have the most recent version of files you worked with, no matter which computer you are using. Schedule sync processes for more convenience and flexibility.
  • EncryptionSecure your backups using one of four encryption standards (AES-128, AES-256, Blowfish or Triple DES) to prevent unauthorized archive restore. The ability to encrypt backups provides a high level of comfort and peace of mind when storing backup archives on external hard drives, third-party servers, and other locations where others might have access to your archives.
  • Diverse Backup Methods:
    • Full - all selected files are saved, and the resulting archive replaces the previously created one.
    • Versioned - all selected files are saved in a new backup archive, and the previous archives remain intact.
    • Incremental - each time a backup is built, only the files that were changed are saved in the new backup archive. (Pro only)
  • Get Backup vs. Apple Time Machine You may wonder why you need an additional backup software if you already have Apple Time Machine on your Mac. Get Backup has multiple advantages when you need to control what to backup. It offers advanced compression and encryption methods and much more. Compare Get Backup with Time Machine.
