Thanks for adding the zoom-hiding hotkey! With that, plus the tip you gave me in April about the maximize hotkey, HoverZoom now does everything I need it to do! Accordingly, I have bumped my review up to a full 5 stars.

I can't say it often enough: developers who are responsive to their users' needs are awesome.

Now that HoverZoom is perfect ;-) , let me put a bug in your ear for something that might make it even more perfect. Currently, you can set HZ to zoom only while a hotkey is pressed OR zoom unless a hotkey is pressed. Would it be difficult to add the ability to have whatever default one has chosen be reversed on a particular site?

For instance, suppose I have it set to always zoom on hover, and hide the zoom when I press Command. What I'm asking about would let me set HZ to reverse it for, say, google.com, so that on that domain, the zoom would be hidden unless I pressed Command, but on other domains it would still zoom unless I pressed Command.

I don't know how difficult that would be to add. But I'd be willing to pay for that additional feature. Even without it, though, HoverZoom is still pretty much perfect, and I will continue to sing its praises and recommend it everywhere.

I must admit, I love this extension. Being free makes it doubly awesome. What it does is so simple that there just isn't much to say about it in that regard except that it just works.

The one thing that would make it better would be if it borrowed a few features from the Chrome extension of the same name (which is a completely unrelated project). Specifically, I'd like to see it adopt two of the Hotkey features the Chrome extension provides: a hotkey to temporarily disable the zoom, and a hotkey to save the full-size image to your downloads folder.

The value of a temporary zoom cancel is that sometimes I don't want the images to be continually zooming when the mouse is hovering over them. For example, if I'm in a Google Image Search or browsing someone's Flickr Photostream, I don't want the zoom to keep trying to pop up every I pause while scrolling the page—I want to look over the thumbnails first to choose an image to zoom. Two types of hotkeys would help here: a toggle hotkey to turn on or off all zooming, and a disable-while-pressed hotkey to prevent zooming while it's pressed.

As for a save hotkey, that would allow one to bypass the need to load the next page to save a copy of an image locally. If I'm browsing, say, Deviant Art, with the current Safari extension, I can zoom the thumbs to get a good look at the image, but if I want to save it locally, I have to click through to the image's page to get the full-size image—saving by context menu will just capture the thumbnail. In the Chrome extension, I can press the save hotkey while hovering and it will save the full-size image locally without having to click through.

I am well aware that the two extensions have no connection or relation to each other except the name, but as the Chrome extension is open sourced with free permission to adapt and distribute, it would be really nice to see some of its features brought into the Safari extension. I had considered making a conversion myself, but I'm not yet strong enough in Javascript and extension-building to figure out what needs changed between Chrome and Safari to make it work.

The hotkey suggestion is a great one that will be looked into.

As for saving the current image. You can use the maximize hotkey (default is Shift key) and then drag the zoomed image or right-click and save.

Appreciate the feedback!

Thanks for the tip on the maximize hotkey. I never considered trying to use that to save the full-size image.

Are there any other hidden features that aren't obvious? :-)

A lot of new features, but still does not work on most pages in the domain imdb.com - only on the first main page is ok, but deeper is not working.

It changes the way you surf the web (in a more convenient way). I think that's the best compliment to this useful extension.

Nice extension - works as advertised.

While their home page isn't updated, the version we have on MU is 1.3.3. You can also see it listed on the dev's page here http://sidetree.com/extensions/HoverZoom_changes.html

I didn't realize how important it is to me, after the fb update, I feel frustrated when viewing images.
But now I updated to the 1.3 but only view avatar zoomed, not all the photo like usual.
I noticed that the url for the image that not zoomable is https, is that a problem?
Sample link:
https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=475891345759686&set=a.253655607983262.80685.253646384650851&type=1&ref=nf
I recently install glims and social fixer, but I disabled the preview function in social fixer

Ah, it's didn't work in my https://www.facebook.com/ page, but if I go to the media/set/... to view an album, it's work like normal.
Similar with my google read, I have to go to the original page, then it zoomable.

My favourite extension by far. A must have for anyone who surfs the more popular picture sites. Keep up the great work!

My favorite Safari extension. Saves a lot of time and hassle. My only beefs are that sometimes large images are slower to load in HoverZoom than if you click to open them in a new tab (this happens a lot on IMDb, for example), and that once in a while it stops working on a given site (usually fixed by a refresh).
