iDocument 2 is a looping crash even after the recent update/fix.
iDocument 1 had many problems with import from a scanner and never has been solved. I hoped with iDocument 2 but seems to be worse.
Nice interface, nice idea but too many more...

I bought this app since it's on MAS. Besides a few bug fixes, almost no updates at all. Instead, they added some extra features and made it a new app and sell it separately for 50$! I won't buy any apps by this developer again.

I wrote them a 3rd email, sent them the original invoice to see if they respond at all.
If not I'll start the process at PayPal and will make sure they will be cut off from selling via PayPal.
Not happy at all!!!

After some hesitating, yesterday I decided to buy and register (I'm already a user of iDocument).

I paid 38.04 USD (tax included) but did not get the registration code. I sent them two e-mails, no reply.

A very - very bad behaviour. So I'm forced to give a bad rating and urge the developper to send me the registration number ASAP. I have never experienced anything alike!!!!

Notice: iDocument 2 and iDocument Plus are two different programs, please do not use iDocument 2's library while trial iDocument Plus. iDocument 2 will be submitted to Macupdate in the close future. We're sorry about the inconvenience.

IcyBlaze, you did it badly! Trail period NEVER means losing data of the previous version! especially when they are DIFFERENT apps. You MUST warn users BEFORE asking them to test. I assume all what they must do is to save library.db, put it somewhere aside, and put it back later. At least this warning should have been there.
On the other hand, iDoc 2.x behaves OK, in my tests better than competing apps, therefore such a shallow approach to user’s experience is really strange and anyway unacceptable.

Hi IcyBlaze,

Happy New Year.
You just didn't care of all our comments.
You skipped it.
Hence, you promote iDP with an upgrade like for shut up all of us.
It is not a matter of money.
Is a matter of professional behavior.
You did it really wrong.
Cheers.

We totally understand this concern. It was actually a big mistake. iDocument 2 and iDocument Plus is totally two program, which we informed MU in the beginning. And they eventually listed two products into one slot, which the original iDocument 2 was replaced.. We're contacting the member with this issue, and we're hoping we could fix this issue as soon as we could in the MU. Do apologize for all the inconveniences.

Cattus-Thraex

I do not think MU may be blamed here, disregarding whether they listed or not correctly. The issue is, the two apps MUST NOT be used concurrently, as the newer app gets older library corrupt, and that one cannot be used any more, iD 2.0.5 goes empty of data.
The good part in this story is that you learnt that users must be respected, and that your app is good enough to be considered. I for one am considering to abandon it in favor of a simple folder-based use. An app like MagicanFile can easily compensate an interface, allowing to deal with files within fodlers with ease, and with a good search feature.

Domes

That's it? A big mistake then finish? Well, your problem as I understand is that you are caring ONLY about people that has iDP and has problems with library (blaming MU!).
All the others that didn't spent money...?
You just IGNORE us.

I'm one of the guys who get their gigabase of books and documents corrupted...

Imho the wrong thing was to create different programs with similar GUIs and uses but different code for their databases, making incompatible to switch between them and even worst, corrupting the file.
I'm user of Autocad since early days in MS-DOS, and I never had a problem with my DWGs switching from one version to another. I can work on 2013 on my office and save it as 2010 to use the file on week-end at home with my 2010 license.
There are also LT versions (lite) and specific versions. I can't use 2013 on 2010 but yes viceversa, and maybe iD2+ must have an option to save as iD2 to avoid compatibility problems.

I think that's the problem and the confusion generated with this plus version. Thinking on Plus you tend to feel that database is the same (the program have the same name with a "+") but application have more features than the iD2 version.

I recommend an option in iD2+ to save as iD2 or even better, change the name of iDocument 2+ for a better one and different from iDocument2 so people will be troubled and troubled again.

IcyBlaze, as a constant user of iDocument, which—basically—a good app, I must tell you what you must NOT do in the future: do not cheat users and do NOT force them to buy an update/upgrade if they are not convinced. The issue is simple: once opening iD 2.5, it imports the library OK, but changes its format, so iD 2.0.5 users cannot use it any more! All those, like me, who tested your iD 2.5 faced the problem of not being able to use iD 2.0.5, unless they have a backup folder as I do. Anyway, many users were bags of nerves. The only elegant solution is to offer a discount for all iD 2.0.5 users, I have the feeling you had one at around USD 10 or so, but for a very short period. You must extend this for, say, two weeks or a month. There are many elegant solutions instead of apologizing for an obvious bad msitake.

Happy new year iDocument Users! In the beginning of 2014, we brought you the Best iDocument ->iDocument Plus! It is an higher level product compare to iDocument 2, and it has more powerful functions, supports more formats. And Best of all, all Paid iDocument users could upgrade to this version with the cheapest upgrade discount for only $9.95 for limited time. Please enjoy the brand new iDocument!

(We'll keep working on iDocument 2 too to bring more and better features to the product in the future.)

Where will the upgrade price be made available to iDocument users? I can't see it anywhere on your website. What "better features" do you plan to add to iDocument 2? It is important to know what the product line up will be so we can decide weather to port to the new version or stay with the current one. The biggest advantage for me would be the use of Mac OS tags.

I've got two BIG problems with this new version.
It's constantly crashing.
And the iDocument Plus converted (or done something else) the index file and now iDocument 2 can't open these index files. So I can't use both.
Very disappointing.

I have been using 2.x version for some time, previously 1.x.x. I got an academic licence. It is not the best product on the market, and I do not find the recent update a trick. For the time being, 2.0.5 was a free update, it is less agreeable to find that there is no discount upgrade of the 2.0.5 users (or was it and is not any more?).
V. 2.x is a lot better than v. 1.x.x. Of course, I am evaluating another (better?) solution, for the time being let us be correct, iDocument and iD Plus are OK and within the good sense of an extra cost for a newer version.

I reply to myself: I hastened to soften the critical views. After removing iD plus, iD 2.0.5 did not recognize the library, which has to be reimported. There are 50 Gb of data there. Nothing seems to be lost though, nevertheless be careful if testing iDoc Plus.

As always time goes on and no changes. Ah, well, a big change. The new iDocument Plus: a pay upgrade for existing users.
The "free" pass from iDocument 1 to iDocument 2 was just as sand in the eyes because the real upgrade is to pay.
I think you have good developers but very bad marketing/administration/support.
Anyway, no news about to .dyndns service the app connects.
Perhaps MacUpdate should ban this kind of company.
Sorry to be rude.

Fully agree here without being rude ;) Even with this upgrade price they won't get my money anymore.

Besides that the iOS iPhone app which was deleted long time ago from the App Store seems also abandoned.

Yah after purchasing iDocument 1 & 2 and iOS app....App development is very slow. updates are very slow. Still no retina support. and way asking too much money.

I kept a little hope to be wrong but Icyblaze erased the change to doubt. Suddenly I get a notification of a new update from version 2.0.5 to 2.5.0 iDocument Plus! I thought "Wow, I'va been totally wrong!" No no... I was right! Hidden the update I discovered the is not an update! Just is the "plus" version in trial mode!!!
Horrible! How can a developer (the company) let me download a version I do not want as it was an update of the previous? That's really crazing! They are doing staff to unfair! Still can't believe it...
Definitely AVOID this Company.
Cheers

iDocument was my go-to app until this happened. iDocument 1.x was working fine for me. When 2.x came out, it had lots of bugs that I happily reported to IcyBlaze. As I saw iDocument Plus released, I knew that 2.x wasn't going to get fixed and left a bitter taste in me. This forced me to buy another similar app that works much better and like the way it works.

Sebehk, what's the name of that similar app you purchased?.
I'm interested as I was happy with iDocument 1, and after converting a huge (about 200GB of PDFs) to 2.x version I found it really buggy and now... a Plus version, in trial mode on my database???

Koloraro,
I have switched to Together. I find it to be a way better app. Together feels much more Mac-like and works better. My 2-cents.

Thanks Sebehk, I knew the application and I will give it a try if it fit my needs. Thanks!

Took this for a trial run. Overall, I like the look and feel of this (despite some UI quirks and some awkward uses of English), but not sure I really need the app (although: it is nice to have the option to access docs in iCloud in your iDocument). I'm pretty good in keeping things organized in hierarchical folders. Couple things I noticed with this app:

* Performance: can rev up your CPU during indexing large folders (on my MBP 17" 2011 with 16GB RAM)

* Organization: the view area will list things alphabetically; in thumbnail view, each alphabetical category (#, 1, ..., a, b, ...) will open in expanded view; no command to collapse the view for easier scrolling to target a particular section.

* Footprint: you can throw all kinds of stuff into this app, but if you decide to remove content, there is no "garbage collection." Everything you add to the Library, will remain indexed in the Library > Thumbnails folder even AFTER you remove items from the Library. This can be an issue for space-conscious users (or users who want to store their Library in the cloud).

For example, I added a folder of some 30,000 images and documents to another folder I already had in iDocuments. The size of the Library increased from 2.5 GB to some 20 GB. Even after I removed the newly added folder and then restarted iDocuments, the Library folder remained at 20 GB; nothing got removed from the Thumbnails folder. No option to rebuild the Library/DB and remove irrelevant content. (The makers of the *pedia apps, Bruji, for example, give you the feature to Option-click Help and there you get all kinds of options to remove invalid or outdated data, including removing covers from items no longer in your *pedia database.)

Other than that, looks like a good (albeit somewhat basic) option for users with a penchant for throwing things into a bucket and tagging.
