    GeoGebra
GeoGebra is dynamic mathematics software for all levels of education that joins arithmetic, geometry, algebra and calculus. It offers multiple representations of objects in its graphics, algebra, and spreadsheet views that are all dynamically linked.

While other interactive software (e.g. Cabri Geometry, Geometer's Sketchpad) focus on dynamic manipulations of geometrical objects, the idea behind GeoGebra is to connect geometric, algebraic, and numeric representations in an interactive way. What's New
Version 4.0.21:
  • added function log(b, x) for base b
  • Worksheet export: Option to embed the ggb file into the HTML (encoded as Base64, uses the 'ggbBase64' parameter)
  • Export as 'Animated GIF' (animation is controlled using a slider as the "clock")
  • Compass Tool allows selecting a circle first then a center point
  • 'Integer' and 'Random' option for sliders
  • File -> Open Webpage allows loading of ggb files from webpages by pasting a URL from a browser (ending .html or .ggb). Also allows loading of files encoded as a Base 64 or GeoGebra XML string.
  • "Show trimmed intersecting lines" option for intersection points
  • Tooltip options (Object Properties -> Advanced) On, Off, Caption, Next Cell, Automatic (old behaviour: only when Algebra View is open)
  • Proper display of formulas and matrices in the spreadsheet
  • When an expression like ab + 1 is entered, if the variable ab is undefined then it is automatically created as ab = a * b if a and b are Numbers, or ab = Distance[a,b] if a and b are Points.
  • FormulaText[ ], FormulaText[ ] now display nicely
  • support for csc(x), sec(x), cot(x), csch(x), sech(x), coth(x) and derivatives
  • Algebra View: you can now shift-click to select multiple objects
  • sqrt(3 + i), cbrt(3 + i), conjugate(3 + i), arg(3 + i)
  • "Import Data" option in the Spreadsheet context menu
  • Windows-style keycodes now work in Text Fields (eg Alt-0176 for °) [not Mac OSX]
  • Support for entering Unicode digits as part of expressions eg Eastern Arabic, Thai

As a teacher of English and history who teaches a junior maths class (yes, Australian spelling), I find Geogebra indispensable. I can sit students in front of it and help them to create in concrete form what is otherwise an abstract concept. We can change angles on the fly, add measurements, make calculations, create number lines and work on Cartesian coordinates.

Another major benefit is that I can create shapes (e.g. triangles for trigonometry) and then export them in graphics formats that I can import into MS Word and other apps. Terrific for creating information sheets, worksheets and quizzes.

Overall, a very powerful tool and well worth the time to learn to use.

Highly recommended.

Very nice, very like Cabri, but free.

You can teach with this for sure.

It is Java but very very fast.

Worth a serious look by math teachers....before committing $$$ to cabri.

looks like cabri may give it a go....cabri is kinda standard though as it is on calculators...but I am gonna give this a whirl as I would like a free tool for this.

You can do constructions with points, vectors, lines, conic sections as well as functions and change them dynamically afterwards. Furthermore, GeoGebra allows you to directly enter and manipulate equations and coordinates. Thus you can easily plot functions, work with sliders to investigate parameters, find symbolic derivatives, and use powerful commands like Root or Sequence.
