Version 1.5.14:
A demo version of Osmos 1.5.14 is available in 'Related Links' below.
Lots of fun to play. I feel I've kind of exhausted it for now (not finished it, though) but it was incredible value. I'll return to it occasionally as it's nice and relaxing and ambient.
Osmos does look quite intriguing.
Let's see now, requirements are for at least OS10.4.4....yeah, that's for the Osmos demo but one must purchase Osmos through the MacCrappStore which is for 10.6 software only. Wow, that makes a whole lotta sense. OK, MacCrapStore doesn't permit demo downloads, right?
Seems like Osmos was originally coded for OS 10.4.4 or better. So If I'm running OS 10.5 I guess that I can't buy Osmos.
So why couldn't Osmos's developer make Osmos available for pre CrapStore operating systems?
This convoluted bullshit makes me say
"Fuck the MacCrappStore.... Die MacCrapStore die!"
An inquiry with the developers brought a reply telling me that Osmos 1.5.14, when purchased directly from their website IS compatible with OS 10.5 so I did buy a complete download and it works just fine. Two thumbs up for that. All the rave reviews are well justified. This thing is a gem.
But I still give the finger to the abominable MacCrapStore.
First time I saw this game was today, when my brother told me about it. This is definitely an excellent game, and quite original too.
Price is fair! This game is now on my wish-list. :)
Good job, guys!
Wow! It's not the same old same old. What an enjoyable game. And, I agree, that even after a level is finished, you want to keep on going. The music, the graphics, and the gameplay are just wonderful. Screensaver, please? Animated desktop background anyone?
A relaxing game that is highly original. One unusual aspect is the creativity of matching the 'under a microscope' look to the orbital mechanics featured in some sections. Another is that even when I've succeeded at the task, I still want to complete the section and absorb all the motes possible. In fact, the orbital sections could be left running for a screen saver (perhaps not for too long, depending on the time it takes for all the motes to be absorbed). The music is great too.
Support is excellent. My OS X is case-sensitive and because of this there was a problem with one of the sound files. After a rapid exchange of emails we found the bug and Osmos now plays wonderfully.
Hi.
I think I have the case sensitive problem too because it freezes in the levels with the "High Skies" song on my computer but when I play the game directly in the disk image which is not case-sensitive, it doesn't freeze.
Hi.
Yes, the fix is: right-click (or ctrl+ left click) on the Osmos application, choose Show Package Contents, and look in Contents/Resources/sounds/. The words "of" and "to" also need to be capitalised so you need to change the file name to "HighSkies-ShapeOfThingsToCome.ogg".
Excellent!
I downloaded the full version after finishing the demo.
And to think in this age of kill-it, shoot-it, maim-it...
someone still has the creative ability to create a game that the entire family can enjoy without destroying something.
The "World of Goo" is the last game I bought and is also great.
Does the full version actually have sound? in the demo version - downloaded three times in case there were problems - all I get is clicking noises (MacBook Pro, 10.6.2) Too bad, since apart from the sound it looks like an interesting game. I also cannot find anywhere to send this sort of 'support' question. All links I can find go back to macgamestore which seems to just be a marketing front.
