Paste Master is a clipboard manager controlled by a preference pane that allows you to save multiple items that you have placed in the clipboard and be able to paste them again later.

Paste Master allows you to display up to 99 items in a compact manner, making it easy to quickly find which one you want to paste again. Paste Master recognizes certain types of text much like Apple's Data Detectors, and allows you to paste them in special ways. This feature is very useful when dealing with web or database forms that force you to type things like phone numbers or social security

If you do a lot of work with text and typing which involves a lot of copy and paste, Paste Master is an invaluable tool which will meet most -- if not all -- of your needs. I have been using it for quite a while now, and I have never been disappointed. It has saved me a lot of work and time.

Developer: Please note that installing version 6.8 on an old G4 500 MHz DP Mini-Tower running Tiger 10.4.11 crashes the System Preferences app during the installation process. I attempted to install 6.8 about half a dozen times and System Preferences crashed every time.

Solution: Reinstalling version 6.7 on the aforementioned machine immediately resolved the problem.

Just thought you'd like to know in case you are still interested in backwards compatibility as far back as Tiger.

A clipboard utility is a very personal tool that needs to fit seamlessly into your daily workflow. After my last clipboard app went by the wayside due to lack of development, I started a time consuming and often disappointing search for a new clipboard app. I even bought a couple of them, thinking each time, “This is the one.” It wasn’t.

I have been using Paste Master now for a couple of months and for my needs, it comes damned close to being perfect. There are so many useful ways to paste things, e.g., phone numbers and serial numbers that are divided into form fields, so you can’t normally paste the whole thing, pasting in an address — a thing of beauty.

The developer is very responsive to feature requests. If you ask for something, he might ask you how you would use it or what you want the end result to be, and if it’s good, he’s right on it. I like to keep my clipboard open most of the time, in a narrow column down the right side of my 27 inch monitor. I can do that with Paste Master and it’s out of the way. When it’s in the way, a quick shortcut hides it.

This latest update has added support for URL shortening. Now, it’s right there in this utility that I use every day, all day. Every update shaves a little more time off my workflow.

Paste Master is a really good app that is constantly being improved upon. It is more than worth its minuscule $8 price tag. I wish I had the money back that I’d paid for the other clipboard apps I’ve bought. I’d give it to this developer.

Finally a clipboardmanager with forms support!! Thank you.

For me the killer feature is the support for the following action:
1. Pick up a number of items from a source
2. ...then change to the target
3. ...and drop the items consecutively into the new location

In fact PasteMaster provides 2 ways to accomplish this:
( see: http://skitch.com/tschloss/d9gcp/paste-master)
1. By "auto-tab" in the target form and clicking the appropriate clip in the grid
2. By "hot key" in the target form and pasting one clip after the other (like a stack of clips built up during the "copy" part of the operation)

Great.
8$ - great, too.

Under Windows I am using "Clipmate" (http://www.thornsoft.com/) for this reason for long.

Cheers
Thomas

The main window may not look very hot, but it's very functional, and it's not like you have it visible all the time, like a "real" desktop app. It's highly configurable, and there's a pretty thorough PDF in the zip file explaining how to use it. I recommend Paste Master highly, if you can stand (or be without) the less than pretty menubar icon :)
You may run Paste Master it without the menubar icon visible, which i do, because it doesn't blend well with the rest of the icons in the menubar. Also, it takes up too little horizontal space (width) which makes it looks like it's squeezed in there, and it doesn't highlight when i click it, like the rest of my menubar icons do.

I have tried lots of clipboard managers, but ClipMenu (free) is the one I stick with. It can't sync automatically, but if I need to I can export from one computer and import into the other very easily.

I am not one to pop anyone's bubble but, CopyPaste X has to be the best muticlipboard utility around. It has been around since at least OS 9 and has only improved over the years. They added Bean to it a fully loaded Word Processor that ties into CopyPaste. You can use Bean to design things that you type over and over again and then transfer it to CopyPaste. If you double click on an item on the clipboard because it needs modification, that will launch Bean and bring up what you double clicked on for modification. It also has a history clipboard that keeps track of anything you copy if while you are working you can go back to it and paste it in again. CopyPaste X was the original and nothing has ever kept up with it since it had a 12 year start on everything else. End of Line...

If you are looking for a multi-clipboard utility with plenty of eye candy, you might want to check out iClip (if it still works with Snow Leopard). Problem is, its developer inexplicably went out of business about four years ago and hasn't updated it since. Pity. If he couldn't or wouldn't continue supporting it, why the heck didn't he sell it to somebody else?

Any reason in particular that Paste Master sports such a godawful look and feel (circa Win 95)?

Well, Paste Master's clipboard grid certainly has no eye candy, but I can't say that it makes me think of Windows 95. In any case, I guess it comes down to priorities. I like the no-frills approach--it results in a stable utility with a tiny footprint. Contrast this with certain clipboard utilities out there that have so much eye candy that they sacrifice stability and use an inordinate amount of system resources (for a glaring example of this, see Clips).

The idea was to display many clipboards at once, showing you enough information to find the one you want. I am open to constructive suggestions to improve it.

There are, of course, many multiple clipboard apps for the Mac out there right now, and I think I've tried just about all of them. Without going into details, it will suffice for me to say that I've found problems or things I didn't like in most of these apps. Paste Master is impressive in its balance of simplicity and features. It has the (for me essential) ability to paste clips as plain text and some unique abilities to paste phone numbers and such in separate fields. The grid clipboard layout is nice and makes it easy to locate individual clips. It has no superfluous eye candy, which I've found tends to make for a more stable application. I emailed Paste Master's developer 4 feature suggestions, and he implemented 3 of them in an update a few days later. There are still a couple of minor improvements I'd like to see in Paste Master, but it's good to know that the developer is responsive to suggestions and apparently dedicated to continually improving the application. 8 dollars, of course, is a very reasonable price for a useful and well-written application. I suggest that people looking for a clipboard app right now check out Paste Master and ClipMenu (also excellent) and avoid the more expensive utilities, the higher prices of which don't necessarily get you a better product, often just a better looking one.

When I click on menu bar icon and then click on 'show clipboard grid', the grid does not appear on my screen.
Also, I can't get the hot key functions to work.
Looked for developer's contact email address at his website but couldn't find it.

At the very top of the Paste Master page that MacUpdate links to, you'll see the developer's name as a mailto link. In my experience this developer has been extremely responsive, so I'm sure you'll be able to get your issues sorted out.
