This program gave me everything that I bought it for and more. Maybe I think it gave me more because I didn't read the entire description :P
Records internal sounds as well as your microphone. NO MORE THIRD PARTY PLUGINS! Easy to edit... I learned how to use it in one day.

I don't know what's up with this dev: I open an account, and my password doesn't work immediately afterwards, so I click on the link that's provided, and the promised e-mail never arrives???

I click on Help, Little Snitch asks permission to connect, I OK it, and I get nothing but blank pages...numerous tries???

The demo is presented as if its full-featured, but some features are greyed-out in my menu bar???

I try to find out why deleting all but 20 secs of a 40 minute file leaves me with a file that plays only my segment but is equal in size to the original, and I run into my Help issue???

Huh???

@Artie505, what account are you talking about? You shouldn't have to open an account to download the Camtasia demo. It sounds like maybe you're trying to connect to our support site which you can visit directly at http://support.techsmith.com, and you also do not need to open an account there to create a ticket, you can do it anonymously.

The demo is in-fact fully featured, if something is greyed out in the menubar it's because you cannot apply that option in the current context.

As to your file size issue, when you create a Camtasia recording (camrec), the recorded file is basically an intermediate step in the process, you can add various other video files to your project (camproj). When you trim video in your project, it can still be within the project so the filesize doesn't change. Camrec and Camproj files aren't designed to be shared -- you need to produce your video to a format like mp4 which will cause only the content in your timeline to be rendered into a final video.

I hope that helps!

Thanks, Stilgar; that helps some, but why do I get blank pages when I access Camtasia Help?

(I've got no idea what account I was talking about, but I remember opening two different accounts...please don't ask what or where. )

@artie505 - I'm not sure why you'd be getting blank help pages, I haven't seen that happen before. Our support site I mentioned earlier could probably help you out with that one.

If you're looking for some howto-type videos, we have a lot of great tutorial videos on our website:
http://www.techsmith.com/tutorial-camtasia-mac-current.html

As far as the mystery logon, it's possible that you ended up at our feedback site: http://feedback.techsmith.com That's actually a site powered by Get Satisfaction and is more for community help and product ideas rather than the one-on-one support you'll get from the other site.

Thanks, Stilgar.

I just played around with Help, and I discovered that I've got a weird glitch going on that affects all Help, OS X and apps...I get a blank page when I click on a topic in a Help drop-down and must re-type my search term in the search field on the blank page and click to get results. So, Camtasia's Help is working as expected on your end, just not on mine.

Your mentioning "Get Satisfaction" jogged my memory: I created accounts both there and at your support site, and while I had no problems with GS, your support site refused to accept my password and failed to e-mail me. (I obviously missed the anonymous poster option.)

Hope this helps.

By the way... Thanks for mentioning your tutorials, but they're not really of any use to me, because I'm using Camtasia only to document a trackpad glitch, not for a presentation.

Not bad software if it actually would work. Unfortunately there is a bug on the Mac will it will not play any recordings if you have a headset or other audio device connected via USB. This pretty much renders the software useless. This bug exists for over a year and has not been fixed.

I'm a programmer at TechSmith and I'm sorry that you're having these problems. I don't believe this is an issue that we're aware of. I'm not on the Camtasia for Mac dev team, but I use two USB devices all the time with Camtasia for Mac and do not have any playback issues.

Have you tried opening at ticket with our Tech Support at http://support.techsmith.com ? They can collect the details about your setup to help us reproduce and resolve the bug. We're generally able to respond within one business day to any tickets you open.

It indeed very easy to use, i could do the common edit without user manual. I think it is suitable for the newbie in video edit, like me. Just cost too much.

Anything but great, it has just brought me to tears so many times when it just stopped working in the mid of the process w/o saving any of the changes I've made to the video and w/o offering to recover. if this is what you guys suggest we should be all using for video editing, life is just sad..

I was looking for a screen recording tool and the opportunity of getting Camtasia in a bundle I was interested in arised...
It's not the most intuitive software, really.
But it's packed with features.
It's not lightweight.
But it's powerful.

It's certainly not the best, but I like it.

I have license for ScreenFlow, I showU HD and Camtasia as I do a lot of tutorials...
In the past my preferred were 1 ScreenFlow 2 Camtasia and then IShowU HD.
Now it is Camtasia my first choice...much more intuitive in editing for my taste.
Techsmith did a very good job.
The upgrade price is a bit high for a non pro I think...
Have a try.
Thanks

After using ScreenFlow for the last year, I was forced by circumstances beyond my control to create a video using Camtasia. It was like going back to the dark ages. Very inflexible and non-intuitive. I'd recommend ScreenFlow over Camtasia any day.

The software is good but the update policy is not, by the way is so greedy I'm buying another software just not to have to pay an update for Camtasia.

I just downloaded what is suppose to be version 1.2.2. It shows that it is actually v 1.2.

I have a MacPro Quad-Core using Mac OS 10.6.8 with 14 GB of memory and tons of disk space. I am using a Logitech Webcam Pro 9000.

1. The audio lags annoyingly behind the video.
2. There are spots in the clip that have very loud clicks.
3. There are areas of the clip where the audio is totally incomprehensible!

I am sorry but I will stick with ScreenFlow v 1.2.9 by Telestream.Inc which has the same features but works perfectly!

I also see that it's still at 1.2.0. Sorry for the mistake. I've corrected the listing!

There is a release 1.2.2 in the Apple Store. TechSmith Support told me there are not sure when they will release or if they will release the update to those outside the Apps Store.

Hope they don't forget those that purchased outside the App Store
