I haven't tried this yet, but be aware...this is an A-GPS solution. Nowhere near the speed of GPS units.

A-GPS is a plus feature over GPS. Think about it as GPS 2.0.

A-GPS aka Assisted GPS uses regular standards to connect to satellite (just like a regular GPD device) PLUS use the aid of cellular towers to pinpoint the location faster. So, it uses 2 methods to pinpoints your location as apposed to one.

Before, A-GPS was commonly used in smartphones, it was heavily used by ambulances for its better performance comparing to regular GPS.

This applies to other navigation apps, not only TomTom.

A-GPS might be better for cities, but nothing beats a true GPS for accuracy and speed. A GPS can lock on to 8 satellites. An A-GPS only locks on to a couple, plus any cell towers it can see. Run a true GPS side by side with an A-GPS and you'll see why there's simply no comparison. Tom-Tom's recent admission (in selling a mount bracket that includes a built in TRUE GPS chip is a good example). I've been using both A-GPS (Blackberry, Verizon, iPhone, etc.) and GPS (Magellan, TomTom and Garmin - many models for road/bike/hike). Anyone who thinks A-GPS is any match for GPS (in all but inner city areas) is out of their mind. ;)
