Bought this program as a lifetime buy. Paid a premium for it. Now I find that the verification process is complex leading me to believe they want to close the door on their customers who made the mistake of buying a lifetime license. I have an activation code which should just work but does not. There are a number of hoops you have to jump through to get to the promised land. I do NOT recommend this program. I feel like I have been ripped off.

Just an observation. It looks like this company did no beta testing whatsoever, unless they maybe tested it on a library of about 100 items.

And they actually want 40 bucks for this? Holy moly, people everywhere these days are trying to rip you off for just pure junk.

Another quick observation...how in the world do people get stuff like this on the App Store?? From what I've heard of Apple's process, they sure aren't living up to their own rules. I suggest contacting Apple and letting them know this app doesn't work as advertised.

In theory this would be good but in practice...

I let it have a go at my well organised and annotated CD RIPS and discovered on one CD of Cecilia Bartoli her name was misspelt 3 different ways, composer names are randomly inserted in track names. In some cases composers are in Artist (how obviously wrong) and names are randomly abbreviated, surname first or last.

So far from "tidying up" my collection, it trashed it.

They mean well but it is a case of garbage in, grabage out when they source their information from the repositories.

Very very clever App but far too expensive for what it does, I have shown to other people and they will not pay that amount for something like this! so far I know 8 people who would love this app but think is too expensive. The verdict seems to be even if it was half the price it would be a difficult decision to buy. Way way off on price, to put into perspective, I have purchased a professional commercial Photoshop pluggin which cost £9.99, I stand to make thousands of pounds from this purchase or ... I could spend £29 on TuneUp and make NO money from it - Its a no-brainer!

I want to comment first on their license policy. Here is it copy/pasted from http://support.tuneupmedia.com/entries/269240-what-is-the-licensing-policy

"Your TuneUp activation code is licensed for the lifetime of the initial machine it is installed on. Each purchased activation code comes with a one time transfer to a new machine of your choice. Simply re-enter your activation code on your new machine. "

So even though I bought the lifetime Gold level I'm screwed when I want to move this to beyond a 2nd new Mac. When (if) Apple ships a new Mac Pro I'll be jumping on it and TuneUp will have to be relicensed.

THat said: how can they sell it for $40 on the App Store: don't all App Store apps include up to 5 simultaneous installs on 5 computers???

Now the app itself is a dog. I have over 400,000 items in iTunes and when I use TuneUp I launch it and have to walk away for over an hour before it is ready. When picking tracks to clean it typically fails, perhaps because much of my music is older classical or blues/jazz music. Really makes a mess but at least it lets me confirm suggestions manually.

And as others note it crashes / hangs frequently.

I do not recommend this at all. There are other apps which do not tax the CPU loading ever track - one can create a playlist to check for example.

Avoid this...

This is the biggest piece of CRAP software I have ever used on a Mac. It bombs, hangs, locks up, on almost every boot. It keeps me from syncing with my iPod, it slows down iTunes and it seems to launch with iTunes even when I tell it not to.

The single best fix for iTunes with TuneUp on it?! Throw away TuneUp and reboot. I NEVER write reviews, this is so BAD, it isn't even believable. Number 1 selling? Wow, I was just as stupid, I paid for it as well.

Save yourself the heartache. Do NOT buy this piece of junk.

I've never had an application crash and hang as often as TuneUp does, this application promises much but in reality is a total POS.

Worst application out there.....When you bring it up - it has to load all of your tracks.....it says 1 second for every 500 tracks.....I have about 240000 tracks.....it takes atleast an houe to load up. Do the math. Frequent hangs...hangs the machine....hangs the screen saver...... Time estimates are never correct....SLOW, SLOW, SLOW. Doing these tasks by hand would be faster...... I owned ver 1 many years ago - it SUCKED....I thought by the "RAVE" review that maybe they had improved something for ver 2.X....NOPE! In my mind they have gone backward. I think their bottom line is selling you tickets and such via TUniverse. DO NOT waste your money on this program....Do it by hand - it is faster...... Ohhh and this thing will absolutely fill your logs up with garbage.....seriously slowing you processor and machine.....

Tuneup was a reasonable 18 months ago ... for about six months ... even then its tagging had a few flaws (agreed, most taggers do!). I think this was prior to upgrading to Snow Leopard. Certainly under Lion, at least, it initially just crashed every time, while more recently it's just slow. Does anyone know how to uninstall it? It's like removing a leech, the way it sucks onto the side of iTunes each time you flip a 45 on the turntable :)

Sorry but GeeJay's message doesn't have a reply button so I have to use the one on your review, MacZapit. GeeJay needs to download something like AppTrap. Then he can dump TuneUp.app in the trash, after which AppTrap will ask if he wants to throw out files associated with TuneUp, which (of course) he needs to do. I like trying out software (I'm a bit of a download freak in that respect) and soon learned how much I needed something like AppTrap, which I've used without problems for some time.

Very very bad app. I paid $40 for this rubbish. I know its a powerful app with some cool features, like auto cleaning albums, auto matching the covers of albums etc... But the app is very hard to use! it started with iTunes and cannot be separated from iTunes. you will tolerate the endless waiting and crazy hot cpu while the app doing its job. you have to reopen it again and again as it always crash, and you need to activate it again and again as it forget your activation code so quickly.

I have this app for both PC and Mac because it's the only app I can find that does what it does on all of the CDs that I burnt a long time ago before CDs would phone home and query a track and album database. The app is able to restore a big mass of tracks that were Track 01, Track 02, Track 03 to be before, necessitating my shuffle-play lifestyle. My Mac and PC both have loads of RAM and I think that helps a lot. And I have good Internet too. I just don't have the problems on either platform and I can now use my iPad the way I want to which is with play lists and album art and a tight library devoid of duplicate tracks and unknown artists.
