Chromium is an open-source browser project that aims to build a safer, faster, and more stable way for all Internet users to experience the web. The Chromium codebase is the basis for Google's Chrome browser.
This is a proof of concept build for Mac OS X.
Requirements
Intel, Intel Mac, Mac OS X 10.4 or later
Don't bother with this virtualization version of Chromium. Native Mac OS X versions are available here: http://www.manu-j.com/blog/download-updated-native-google-chrome-for-mac-os-x/230/
I don't know why MacUpdate doesn't have this listed.
I gather "proof of concept" means, you built it. Yea for you. I think the question comes up, since you list it here, Codeweavers, is ... does it happen to work? You know, start up? Browse the web?
When I looked inside the package I see resources for X11, and I do not have X11 installed on my machine. Maybe this is the problem? Rebooting did not help.
Took several minutes to launch, during which my dual-core 2Ghz MBP was pegged. Didn't even take the time to create an icon beyond 32 pixels. Mouse behavior is strange - clearly something related to either X11 or Wine, but it's not using native tracking or acceleration profiles, which is very jarring. Command-tab does not work to leave Chromium. Overall, while this is a very polished but incomplete browser for Windows, it is both unpolished and incomplete in this CrossOver form.
Recommendation: Do not use this, and don't form any opinions about Chromium based on this.
I feel as though, I should explain my use of Google Chrome (Chromium for Windows), since I'm the first to review.
This is not the official Mac OS X version of Google Chrome, its the Windows version, only using WINE emulation to bring Google Chrome to Mac OS X.
At first, its says it needs to install.....I was trying to figure out what it was installing.....but found out it was WINE.
Google Chrome has alot of trouble loading some webpages like MacUpdate, CNN, and some others because of the lack thereof of a Windows version of Adobe Flash Player.
Use at your own risk. As the Windows version is still unstable, the Mac one I hope will be alot better.
