FunctionFlip... I like the media keys on my MacBook keyboard - just not all of them. Fat-fingered that I am, I regularly skip tracks when I just want to pause. Disabling all of the keys just won't do, because I use the brightness and volume keys every day.
FunctionFlip individually controls your Macbook or Macbook Pro's function keys, turning special keys back to regular F-keys, or vice-versa.
FunctionFlip requires that "Enable access for assistive devices" be checked on the Universal Access pane in System Preferences.
Unfortunately, the situation seems to have gotten even worse in Lion. I hate having to hold down the function key to change my system volume, but this once-useful utility is now causing more problems than it solves.
Seems to have stopped working for me. This happens occasionally, but I used to be able to just stop it and start it again, and that isn't fixing it anymore. It just has no effect on the F keys at all.
Very awesome program, thank you for the update for 10.6! It seems however that the new version thinks it is number 1.2 and when you click to check for updates it says there is a new update when in fact I just downloaded and installed the latest...
I'll second that. We just need a hopefully small update for snowleopard. I can't seem to figure out a way to fix the crashing or find a substitute program to do the job.
The iTunes hot-keys were a terrible step backwards towards making a Mac look more like a cheap PC "Media" klutterboard. FunctionFlip restores your keyboard's Mac-ishness quickly, simply, and invisibly.
I found it didn't really work for me. It would disable the printed functions on the keys, but they wouldn't work as actual functions keys.
Just wondering what file in the OS this alters. Ever since I uninstalled it, my keyboard and trackpad will quit working. I can use a bluetooth mouse and I can use the Keyboard Viewer. I can even Share Screen from another computer, but the local keyboard and trackpad won't work until I put the thing to sleep and wake it up again. That seems to fix it for a little while.
Perhaps the developer can comment on what file may be affected to cause this?

very disappointing because its a very handy program that has let me repurpose the function keys while keeping the media keys working.
