Mama Meera's Cookbook is designed to be a simple to use cookbook manager with some fun features added on. Right now it's still in the alpha and design phase, but it's still a very usable piece of software.
Currently, the cookbook manages recipes and has a Cover Flow style view for browsing through recipes. Recipes are put into different cuisines all configurable by the user.
Coming in future releases, recipe sharing will be implemented along with a weekly menu builder with integration into iCal.

The coverflow interface is nice, if you have pictures of your food, and it is comfortingly "Mac-like". Although it won't calculate nutritional information for you (unlike the non-free MacGourmet) it does allow you to enter this information for each recipe. Also provided is tracking of the number served, which is nice for meal planning.
All in all, Mama Meera's Cookbook, despite a rather cumbersome name ;-) is a capable start for a free recipe/cooking program, and it may eventually become a serious contender with the commercial apps already available.
