SoftSkies is a real-time music visualizer for media players and can also visualize auxiliary or "line-in" audio. SoftSkies features hundreds of effects, savable and scriptable effects, and interactive on-screen customization. SoftSkies is designed to be visually engaging and extremely reactive while allowing you to customize and control it.
What's New
Version 1.7:
  • FFT audio data is now auto-normalized, offering automated visual response sensitivity adjustment based on incoming audio. This ensures that you get a visually responsive experience no matter what you're listening to.
  • Added audio auto-detect, which auto-scans all audio input sources for an active audio source. This new feature is enabled by default for the screen saver and can be enabled for the V-Bar and Standalone.
  • Added UI elements in the screen saver control panel/settings to set the audio auto-detect, the preferred audio source, the frame rate, and the current visual preset.
  • Improved screen saver and V-Bar support, including the internal sharing of audio devices so that multiple engine instances can now visualize the same audio source.
  • The V-Bar for Windows now supports multiple display devices.
  • Fixes to tile modes in the V-Bar.
  • Added 64-bit support for iTunes and Standalone on Mac OS X.
  • Added 64-bit support for Windows Media Player and Windows Media Center.
  • Addressed an issue where SoftSkies would hang on exit due to a deadlock.
  • Now mangling ObjC classnames to prevent Mac OS X namespace collisions within iTunes and the Mac OS X screen saver subsystem.
  • Fixed issue where clicks were not hitting UI elements.
  • Improved Mac OS X and Windows audio input source detection and handling.
  • Fixed issue under Windows where the full screen resolution selection list was empty.
  • Various install/uninstall fixes for J. River Media Center.
  • Addressed issue where license code validation would mistakenly fail or the engine would mistakenly report that it needs to be reinstalled.
  • Mac OS X and Windows installer improvements for better compatibility.
  • Removed Google Desktop support (it has been discontinued by Google).
  • Now using the new iTunes visual API in iTunes 10.5 and later.
  • Enhanced error handling support for the Mac OS X installer under PowerPC.
  • Fixed 'Reset All Settings' in the Settings menu.

The photo on this page looks like it's from either Arches Natl. park or
Canyonlands, Utah. I used to live in Moab. It looks better in real life. For about the same price as this screensaver, you could probably travel there.

I was once foolish and purchased all 3 iTunes visualizers from SoundSpectrum, Inc. but after finding out later the fees I paid were only for 1 year and they wanted me to cough up more money for bug fixes in future updates. No chance, no how!

Greed will be the ultimate demise for this very ungrateful company!

Paying customers should be having to pay for bug fixes and 1 year fees for eye-candy is not a good business model.

I don't care what SoundSpectrum, Inc. uses as their excuse for gauging customers with yearly fees for their own sloppy programming. It's not worth it.

Save your money people there's far better ways to spend it than give it to crooks.

I loved it ... Put some mellow music on, this visualizer and I was out! Got an upgrade notice for a week time limit of $15. Whoa! Half of the original cost and no changes except a fix when an iTunes update breaks it. Shame these people are so greedy. Well I have dropped this visualizer. WhiteCap expires soon and I am sure that they will want at least $15 to upgrade, so I will be dropping WhiteCap next. However, when G-Force comes up for renewal I will have to hem and haw (really cool visualizer) until the grace period expires ... then I will drop it. A lot of good stuff coming out of developers these days and most are not greedy. Bye!

Yawn...a rather uninspiring dud, imo, and dreadfully overpriced. Just not very interesting. Esthetically, two thumbs down.

While the cloud theme is pleasant, it's just not all that interesting. Most of the features in the trial version are blocked, making a full evaluation impossible.
But, I can say without any hesitation, even with crippled trial version, SoftSkies just isn't in the same league with the brilliantly designed G-Force, which is always fascinating.
As a previous reviewer stated, SoftSkies isn't worth the $20 or $30 cost, while G-Force is.

Agreed. There are more interesting FREE screensavers out there and GForce is worth the cash.

Doh! I meant to say "visualizer" and not screensaver.

I think you're missing the point, bro. SoftSkies is the opposite of G-Force: mellow, subtle, chill vs. psychedelic, wild, etc. If I was running a viz shop, I'd do exactly that: create vastly different products that appeal to totally diff peeps. My 2 cents.

Sorry, but I'm afraid that SoftSkies just isn't all that interesting as a visualizer.
While G-Force, from the same developer, is incredibly unique and wonderful, SoftSkies is, merely, pretty pedestrian. While there are numerous settings to change the forground, background or colors, its still just clouds passing across the sky....I lost interest in it pretty quickly.
And at $20 for the Gold, and $30 for the Platinum edition.....the same as for G-Force, there's just no way I'd pay those prices for SoftSkies....it's definitely overpriced. And I think that the $20 or $30 for G-Force is well worth the money.
While I was, and still am, overwhelmed and awed by G-Force, SoftSkies is totally underwhelming.....it just leaves me feeling cold and disappointed.
I guess I'd have to say that it's somewhat of a turkey.
