this app is useful up to a point, but you should be wary when using it:

it flagged up 22 dead links after scanning my del.icio.us bookmarks. looking through the list, i noticed a few sites that i knew for a fact were not dead links. so i tested each link on the list and found that out of the 22 only 7 were actually dead. the rest either loaded perfectly in my browser, or were pages which required a login [which seems to cause dead.licious to flag them as unreachable].

so, yeah. it narrowed my search for dead 'uns down from a couple of hundred to 22, but i still had to manually check each one to remove the live ones from the list before telling dead.licious to delete the remainder from my del.icio.us account.

and i can't help wondering; if it mistakenly added live links to the list of dead link, did it also err the other way and fail to add some that were actually dead?

so, all in all a fairly useful app - but i'd advise you to doublecheck its results before asking it to delete stuff from your del.icio.us account

Nice little app, its been needed for a long time. Its not perfect yet (but very usable), but the developer just started sharing it with the world.

Little Snitch says that dead.licious wants to connect to: s47.del.re4.yahoo.net

Why?

Uh, because it's a tool that downloads data from your del.icio.us account which was bought by Yahoo! some time ago. If you don't have an account, you can get one by going to ; otherwise, dead.licious won't be of that much use to you.

Whoops. The link got left out in my last post. Anyway, you can get an account at http://del.icio.us

Well, unless you knew that Yahoo owns del.icio.us (which I now do) wouldn't you wonder? Without knowing this, it didn't make sense that you would access yahoo rather than del.icio.us.
Uhm, thank you for clearing it up.
