XScreenSaver is a collection of several hundred screen savers. This is a Mac port of the standard screen saver collection shipped on most Linux and Unix systems.
What's New
Version 5.15:
- New hacks, hilbert, companioncube and tronbit.
- Image-manipulating hacks can now load from RSS or Atom feeds: imageDirectory may contain a URL.
- Updated webcollage for recent search engine changes.
- phosphor and apple2 can now be run as standalone terminal emulator applications on MacOS.
- photopile sped up.
- New molecule in molecule.
- Upgraded to XCode 4.0, which means that Mac OS X 10.4 PPC builds are impossible, and Intel is now required.
- Turned on LC_CTYPE on Linux; maybe Japanese password entry works now?

Optionally enabled full-scene OpenGL antialiasing. Set the resource *multiSample to true if doing so doesn't kill performance with your video hardware.
New version of glhanoi.
Image-loading hacks that display the file name now also display the sub-directory (xscreensaver-getimage now returns relative paths under imageDirectory).
Passwords that contain UTF-8 non-Latin1 chars are now typeable.
Numerous minor stability fixes.

"What in the world are you talking about? The MacOS builds of XScreenSaver have been 3-way compiled for ppc, x86 and x86_64 since xscreensaver version 5.09 released back in September. The same executables will install and run without modification on any Mac (ppc or intel) running MacOS 10.4.0 through 10.6.2.
Incidentally, getting these to work on 10.6 was not simply a matter of recompiling them. The 10.6 version of ScreenSaverEngine did not only require that things be compiled for x86_64 -- it also required that garbage collection be turned on, and that resulted in a bunch of unexpectedly complicated memory-corruption bugs."

i have osx 10.6.2 in a macbook pro aluminum installed and had one of the screensavers running (grav) and shut the lid of my mac to put it to sleep. when i came back and reopened the lid 2 hours after that, my mac was burning hot and the fan was running...
i would not use them...
