Wow... this program is amazing! I am impressed. I have WinRAR and it does remind me of it. I paid for WinRAR and would have hated to have paid for the program again in Mac mode. Thanks to the programmer. You get a perfect 10 out of 10 stars. Congratulations on a great job. I made a mistake in the stability rating so please just ignore that. You got a perfect score#!!

For those of you who already purchased WinRAR in the past - please try to use it on the Mac through Wineskin. You have to run what is called a "wrapper" and the program again every time you use it -however- its compression seems better and much faster. According to estimates on this particular file... it is half the size instead of only being reduce by 10%. It seems to only work with 32-bit WinRAR however the speed is for this file is tripled.

The 5.2 gb file has just been completed. Please note that the end result is that the compression method produces the same size files however the speed IS triple! There is also a progress bar. The only problem I see with this program is that it shows an error message if you exit out of it... sorry - WinRAR is also a pay for version. I personally use version 3.93. Hopefully it is compatible with all versions.

Actually, it works fine in Lion. The rar binary inside the app package does not because it is PowerPC. Download the latest (intel) rar for MacOSX binary and replace the PowerPC one with it. http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm

Easy-to-use app, quickly makes password protected archives.
One star missing, 'cos an integrated right-click menu item (ex.: make archive) is missing for me.

I was looking for a right click "create rar archive" option just like on windows or on the finder for zip archives. I finally found something that does this amazingly on a blog. Check this out:

I like it, it is really easy to use and gets the work done. However I couldn't find a way to open password protected rars which was confusing.

This is the best RAR utility I've found for OS X so far (other than unRarX, which is great too, but it only extracts archives; it doesn't create them).

One small thing that needs to be fixed is that the preset sizes for split archives are not quite correct. For example it lists 100 MB as 102,400,000 bytes, but 100 megabytes is actually 104,857,600 bytes (100 * 1024 * 1024).

OK I love this app but I'm having problems. When trying to use the 'Normal Level' of compression and splitting an achieve into 100MB volumes it quits.
And how do u specify user defined volume sizes? I cant figure it out or am I dim?

dude...
this a great Mac-Utilitie!
but, i have some problems....

i have a folder with a lot of files on it, 34.5 Mb total size, and after "compress" using SimplyRAR, the .rar file is 65.7 Mb !! ...I try "normal" and "better" compressing options and results are the same.

I just run SimplyRAR, i drop this folder, i press "apple+s" to save the file in desktop and ok!

similar "behavior" with ".toast" files... recently i was making some back-ups of software and games.

Did you try typing 64MB instead of Mb?

I remember reading somewhere about Megabits vs. Megabytes in winrar messes it up...Maybe the same thing here.

Life had trouble on 10 Aug 2006

I love this programme, but I recently tried splitting an archive into 100MB parts. The file I was splitting was about 700MB so I wanted 7 RAR's. But when it finished it had done the whole thing as one big RAR file. It works when I split into 50MB size parts, but then I end up with 14 parts. Any Thoughts?

The app. tells me when it is finished unarchiving that the password is incorrect.
