What's New
Version 3.0.2:
addresses a problem with saved preferences that prevented the creation of worksheet elements if a default font shadow had not been defined.
I've found Incubator to be an elegantly clean and convenient application for brainstorming and outlining. When I needed support MindCad was outstanding. I would pay $49 for this as a first-time purchaser.
However, after looking at “What’s New” and playing around with version 3.0 I don't see anything remotely significant enough in it over version 2.6.4 that justifies repurchasing it for $49. I would consider a very modest upgrade price. Am I missing something?
I have to agree. I've had Incubator since the Pyramid days and moved on from it to MindNode because Incubator never really advanced. And MindNode Pro costs half the price with more functionality!
The upgrade price for those who bought it before 2010 is $19 at the moment, but with that going up to $29. After 2010 and it is free. Whether that is enough to make a difference to you, is perhaps another matter.
As much as I love Incubator's simplicity, its more limited feature set seems to make it a less likely candidate for integrating into workflow on an iPad, for instance, where I tend to use iThoughts, although MindNode is workable, too.
On that note, Mindnode Pro on the Mac looks good, but my using the iOS on the go means I'm much less likely to use an app on the Mac that I can't integrate easily.
Caveat: I haven't tried version 3 yet. Kind of put off by the threat of the upgrade moving from $19 to $29 in a short time, before I have a chance to try this out in connection with a workflow that is both mobile and on the desktop.
Got a chance to try out this version. It is barely different than 2.6.4 in terms of functionality. Yes, you can color the background, but that's about it. The rest is visual. You keep track of worksheets with a bar on the left instead of tabs, and they got rid of the annoying frame around the mind map as well as the useless data drawer at the bottom. But that's it. They talk about a better grow/trim functionality of the workspace, which I can only assume is true. But to call this a major upgrade is an overstatement, even if a lot of under-the-hood work might have occurred.
On the upside, they are still maintaining their "limited time" upgrade fee of $19.00. As much as I have used this app, I'd be tempted to take them up on it. But the functionality of the thing has just not improved enough. Meanwhie, as I mentioned in my previous comment, there's the whole issue of the iOS, which offers mind maps with a fuller feature set than this one, meaning I can't use it to integrate.
In the end, I shall probably just stick to version 2.6.4, not so much for mind-mapping anymore, but for making reasonably clear diagrams and charts for my students.
This is a solid application. Unfortunately it hasn't evolved for quite some time now, thought there is plenty of room for improvements. Hope they get this back on track.

FreeMind (http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/19325), though, offers much of the same functionality at the unbeatable price of free.
