AnimAide XT software is for stop motion animation but it could also be used other traditional animation (e.g. pencil tests). If you are intent on using video, you could still use AnimAide along with other video capture software as a reference. Just point the project directory to the place where the video image files are being stored on the hard drive. It also has a view window that is completely transparent when the source is fully off and it allows you to see other applications (frame grabbers, live feeds) behind it. So other animation software can work in conjunction with AnimAide. Script automation in preferences allows for switching between AnimAide and another software.

Intel only, requires Leopard, but the icon is 128 x 128?
Why would anyone even make an Intel only binary for something that's easily universal? That's a great way to turn away customers.
