The current issue which is causing an annoyance is the Missing Font issue with certain CS5 products. The prompt comes up twice for each document stating you have a series of missing fonts. If opening 5 documents simulateneously, that's 10 prompts! They simply tell you to hit "Done" twice and ignore the issue. If you view their release notes much of the resolution for similar problems has been to simply ignore it. If it is so easy to ignore it, why not actually fix the problem!
When Illustrator CS5 requests a font which has linked pdfs/documens it makes font requests like "AYNBAA+FuturaStd." Six random characters followed by a plus then the Font name it is requesting. Why doesn't FontExplorer simply request and activate the font after the plus symbol?
Here is the actual release note that has plagued Font Explorer since 3.1:
Adobe Illustrator CS3, CS4 & CS5: If an Adobe Illustrator document contains a placed PDF or illustrator document with embedded fonts, an incorrect font request will occur with the status missing. Activate any fonts that the document may require and ignore the incorrect requests by clicking on the Done button.
I truly hoped they would have fixed this in a minor update such as 3.1.1.

It appears that Macupdate and the developer no longer offer the free version. I suppose that way customers have no choice but to buy the full version, which is a shame.

Otherwise, it seems to work fine for Roman character sets.

At today's exchange rate, $79 is £50.82. At checkout, the price is £59, which is close enough, but then adding German VAT (compulsory) it shoots up to £70.21. That's $109.12. Why do we have to buy it in Sterling and pay German VAT if it's available in the States?

Heah, Angela Merkel has to get the shekels from SOMEWHERE for Germany to bail out Greece and the other hand-out countries! ;D

Funny how all those major Mac font app players have similar problems. They all have similar bugs, they all refuse to fix anything, they all ignore their customers, they all charge $100 for their "software".
Oh wait, it's not funny.

1. "The Operation cannot complete because of an unknown error" opens every time when i create a new document. When i quit FEX, then everything is fine.
Sometimes in photoshop CS5, when opening file with fonts, it hangs photoshop untill i quit FEX.
Also searches plain one layer png images for fonts, downloaded from net

Evaluated FontAgent and FontExplorer and am for some time now an enthusiastic user of the latter. It is a very solid, stable program with nice options. Font activation and deactivation from Adobe CS apps works nice and there are nice ways in organizing fonts logically in folders en sets.
Minor points for me are the long startup times and slow response during use (with a very large collection), otherwise it's fast enough. Support is slow in answering or not answering at all. That's a pity. (Based on 2 support requests).
Besides, a fontfile renaming function is missing.

Since upgrading to version 3 from 2.5, whenever I create/edit/delete any font sets, folders, add comments or any other metadata, if I quit the program and restart my computer it undoes all of the changes I made during the previous session. FEX still remembers what fonts I've imported or deleted from my database but beyond that, I'm unable to make any changes to it.
I am running OS X 10.6.8 and managing around 20,000 fonts if that helps. 90% are keyworded using the comments field (I started before the Classify feature was added). I've invested thousands of hours organizing everything, so the thought of losing that work makes me very sad :(

I completely removed FontExplorer and reinstalled it under a new admin account after doing a permissions repair. I've tried reimporting my fonts several ways, including restoring from a full backup and by importing them to a new database without any of the old metadata.
None of it seems to make a difference. I can still import and delete fonts from FontExplorer but beyond that, I can't do anything – add comments, category information, create, delete or add to font sets – anything.

We are currently working on new versions of our plugins for Adobe CS5.5 applications. We do not currently have a time frame of when they'll be released.

The vast majority of people using Suitcase, FontExplorer, etc. are using it in combination with at least 1 Adobe program. Why aren't Linotype, Extensis, etc. giving their developers pre-release beta versions of CS like many third-party developers to test on ahead of time? Plug-in updates should take weeks, not months.
I don't mean to sound rude, but CS5.5 cam out in April. FontAgent Pro released a compatible update in July. It's the middle of August – how much longer do customers have to wait before Linotype releases a FontExplorer update?

Dear Stephen Moye,
thank you very much for your email.
We tested FontExplorer X Pro 2.5 with MacOS X 10.6.3 and find out that it could happens after update that active fonts are not "visible" for system after update. What you can do is to create one smart set with "active fonts" parameter. Now deactivate all activated fonts and afterwards active them again. Now all your fonts should be "visible" to the system.
Should you have any questions or additional requests, please feel free to contact me.
Best Regards,
Dejan Grbic

Downgraded the InDesing plugin and now efverything works just fine.
I am surprised that not a lot of people are experiencing this problem. Or not a lot of people are reading this and/or are not experiencing the same problem...
Anyway, no news from Linotype yet. I mailed the problem a few days ago so I guess there are not a lot of complaints and I'm sure its related to my system which is a Early 2009 Mac Pro Quad core 2.93 Ghz with Mac OS X 10.6.2 btw.

I cleaned system and application font caches, repaired privileges, trashed InDesign prefs but to no avail.
Anyone else having this problem?
InDesign CS4 (6.0.4) / Fontexplorer 2.5
Anyone else having this problem? I'm on a quad 2.5gHz Mac Pro, 4GB RAM, 2X 500GB HD, OS X 10.5.5.
Thanks!
