Img2icns is a simple, quick application to convert images to icons or icons to images, keeping them orderly filed and ready to use.

Creating Icons can't be easier!

Creating an icon is just as easy as drag'n'dropping one or more images on to Img2icns and choosing an export format - the same goes for creating images from icons.

We are currently offering a free lite version and a $12.90 pro version.

What's New

Version 1.2.2:
  • Improved installation of Img2icns the first time it will launch.
  • Corrected the export size bug, Img2icns will now use the value shown on the slider every time.

Requirements

OS X 10.5 or later

You can buy this either via MAS (renamed as "Image2icon") for $3.99 or straight from the dev (download the demo first and register via the app's preferences) for $3.90.

Have been using this app for years for its simplicity and focus on only one functionality.
Though old, still work out of box on Mac 10.8.5.

The application is really really bad. It is old and there are no any update. I am a student of Stanford University and I need a good app for creating icons in my classes of programming. I downloaded this app and as I can see, it is no compatible with "Apple instruction about creation icon". The IconFly much better!

1. When feeder with an icns file, it doesn't seem to respect any other icon sizes contained in that icns. It just scales down the biggest one it finds.

2. The resulting icons are slightly brighter that the original image/icon.

An hour of investigating and experimenting led me a pleasing icon creation scenario:

1. Create a multi-layer 512 x 512 image in Pixelmator.

2. Save the image as a PNG file.

3. Drop the PNG file onto Img2icns (lite, freeware).

4. Click the ICNS button in Img2icns.

Although this may be more steps than a self-contained icon editor, I found creating the icon image in a full-featured image editor beats the limited imaging editing in most/all icon editors.

The unconventional Img2icns user interface is not to my taste, resulting in a 1 star deduction in my overall rating. (I'd have deducted just a half-star if that were possible.)
