1. When feeder with an icns file, it doesn't seem to respect any other icon sizes contained in that icns. It just scales down the biggest one it finds.

2. The resulting icons are slightly brighter that the original image/icon.

An hour of investigating and experimenting led me a pleasing icon creation scenario:

1. Create a multi-layer 512 x 512 image in Pixelmator.

2. Save the image as a PNG file.

3. Drop the PNG file onto Img2icns (lite, freeware).

4. Click the ICNS button in Img2icns.

Although this may be more steps than a self-contained icon editor, I found creating the icon image in a full-featured image editor beats the limited imaging editing in most/all icon editors.

The unconventional Img2icns user interface is not to my taste, resulting in a 1 star deduction in my overall rating. (I'd have deducted just a half-star if that were possible.)

This doesn't offer any more than the free Icon Composer that comes with the developer tools. Also, version 0.51 -> 1.0 seems to have bloated significantly:

0.51: 400k
Icon composer: 800k
1.0: 6Mb!

It would be good if it did something more powerful like being able to badge folders quickly and easily in a variety of styles, but not even the paid version can do that.

Hi Simonm,

we don't believe that our product doesn't offer more than Icon Composer.

Img2icns with only 1 drag'n'drop can export your icon in many formats and apply it directly to any number of files.

Also the base version is free as Icon Composer, you can just ignore the pro version if you don't need other export formats or the history ;)

The size is bigger because it's Universal Binary (nearly double the size of the application), but the application it's fast (maybe faster) that the older versions.

Hope that this reply will clarify your doubt.

Absolutely love this program. Couldn't live without it for my icon development/conversions. Well, I could but this little prog simplifies the process.

Great app, one limitation: the icons in the list view don't match the standard Leopard list view folders. I am using a standard Leopard folder PSD template, and all looks great except list view/column view/sidebar icons.
