EyeTV Exporter is little AppleScript to export all your EyeTV recording with one click. The exported recordings will be found in your movie folder or the folder of your choice. You could choose the exportformat at start. The exported filenames will contain title, start date, start time and export format. You could just start it by clicking or by adding it to your AppleScript Menu.

What's New

  • added new exportformats from EyeTV 1.8.4 (iPod and iPodMP4)

Great app but:
Trying to export as h264 or PSPH264 (what I really want) causes this error in eyeTV: "The Recording could not be exported... Code -50"

I use EyeTV 1.8.4, on OS 10.4.3, on a Quad 2.5 G5, with EyeTV Exporter 1.3

Anyone else have this trouble or find a solution?

Otherwise perfect app, source was easy to modify for my setup, and I added it to my script menu, so it is quite handy. I found export 4 simultaneously works nicely on the Quad G5, Munches pretty had but provided me with the greatest number of exports per hour. Thanks!

I'm having the exact same issues...the h264 (I've found) is the best as far as compression to quality ratio. In EyeTV 1.8.5 I get the same as you (pretty sure the same error wording), and in version 2 it won't even open...so it doesn't hold much use for me.

Maybe in a future update?

This is helpful and I use it regularly to export stuff overnight.

That said, it could be improved.

1) Let the user decide how many to export at once. The script does 2 at once, which isn't bad but I prefer to do one at a time on my G4.

2) It ought to be possible to either a) set the export format once (the list would also be improved by showing the file extension which will be used, which people might know better than the format names) or b) tell it to use the format that it was recorded in (those which won't require re-encoding). "b" would probably be difficult.

3) it ought to ask for a default folder. $HOME isn't going to work for people who use external hard drives and having to tell it every time to use the same different folder is annoying.

4) It puts too much junk in the exported filename including the date and the export format (which is then repeated in the extension)

This works perfectly once you figure out what it's asking. It's free and a great service to EyeTV users (I believe EyeTV ought to include an "Export All" feature but it doesn't yet). I definitely recommend it for EyeTV users and the beauty of AppleScript is that you can probably just read the code and figure out what you need to choose for settings.

I have been able to edit the script to do what I want (with some help from the AppleScript list): export 1 at a time, export iPod format, just use the Title for filename (which wouldn't work for everyone but I use unique Titles}, and it also prompts me with the defaults I want for location and export format.

Exports files as advertised, but I wish I could select more export options in addition to the file type.

I want to export ThreeG and select 320 x 240 image size instead of the default 176 x 144.

This is not possible because of the EyeTV's applescript interface limitations. Write an email to the Elgato support and ask for that features.

In v1.1 you can select a destination folder to use instead of ~/Movies; that's what "you could choose if you want to use the standard folder or a folder of your choice" means. The general product description needs updating.

I'm a little wary to try this cos I've got a _lot_ of EyeTV recordings and they live on a different HD so exporting to my movies folder gonna kill the boot hd...
