Sidenote tries to catch the "Stickies" spirit but in the form of a multi-document drawer that will hide in the corner of your screen (left or right). You can use it to take all your daily notes, include images and easily modify text color and font. Sidenote will automatically expand so that you will be able to drag into it any picture, text clipping or pdf file from the finder or your favorite application. Sporting notes auto-saving, you'll never have to save your notes. Sidenote will handle that for you. You can also print them or export them to rtf.

God I miss this great li'l app. The only reasonable sub I've found is JustNotes. I'd recommend fellow Sidenote fans give it a try.

This is by far one of my favorite apps. Incredibly useful, easy to use, and love that I could tuck it away on the side of my screen. All the more reason why I've been SO BLOODY DISAPPOINTED that it doesn't work with OSX Lion, and the software author seems to have disappeared. I've upgrade to Lion, and have lost the use of Sidenote and all of the notes I've built up over the years.

Does anyone know how I can access the actual note content without being able to run the app on Lion?

And can someone please develop a similar app that does work with OSX Lion... and maybe the added feature of syncing w/ a service like Simplenote? I'd pay for it.

There's an app called SideWriter that apparently works with Lion. I'm a convert to the awesomeness of Notational Velocity, which does sync thru Dropbox or Simplenote. It doesn't pop out from the side, but I just link a four-finger tap on my trackpad to show/hide it instantly.

Sidenote notes are saved in Users/Your User Folder/Library/Application Support/Sidenote. They're rtfd files, so they open in TextEdit.

I've been using Sidenote for year. It's great how it just disapears and when I want it I just press a quick key combo and up it pops. This is one app I tell all of my new mac user friends to get....and it's FREE!!!

I love this app and use it everyday! But there is one problem:
Sometimes, if I open my side note window, suddenly there ist no content in it. The page is blank and I don“t know why. This is very annoying.

Greetings from Germany!

Really love this one. Just some things that can be further developed.
1: note isn't saved unless you choose to or choose another note.
2: Using Slashes in note name is not a good idea as it will reflect in the path
3: I'd really really would love the possibility to make links to other notes (and sort of make a mini-wiki)
5: If there was a possibility to sync with other notes and from there to the iPhone...
4: Other things I've thought about, but mostly i just like having Sidenote on the side of my screen

Cannot see myself without this application.
I would refuse to upgrade OS if it would not be compatible.

I use it with swiping the touch pad (MultiClutch) to open and close it.

Just amazing simplicity & ingenuity.
should be built in Mac OS

From the developer's site: "sidenote is no longer supported until the end of my PhD Thesis in January 2010, that is eating up all my free time. Updates are planned, thanks for your understanding and support !"

If anyone was wondering, as I was, whether sidenote is dead, here's our answer! I'm not sure how the current version works on Snow Leopard, but I guess I'll give it a try.

Good to know Sidenote's development will eventually be active, once again.

As far as compatibility with Snow Leopard goes, I've been using Sidenote well before the release of 10.6 and I haven't encountered a single issue.

I love this li'l app. :)

I'm on 10.4.11 and I must say that Sidenote doesn't always appear when I move to the edge of the screen (maybe some conflict with other apps... ???), but with the shortcut it's ok.
My main goal was to find a drawer staying invisible to store in it SMILEYS to integrate in my mails, and it does the job perfectly, so, even if it wasn't intended as its main purpose it's perfect for me!

Absolutely great app - used it for a few years now and is so simple and efficient you forget it's not just part of the OS.

For those having trouble using it with Leopard straycat posted a fix on the developer's homepage: http://stashbox.org/217632/sidenote.app.zip

I find that version works absolutely fine for me now as of 10.5.6 (i.e. no strange blue arrows in expose, sidenote slips in and out just by mousing over the screen edge again instead of having to 'select' it from expose etc.)

Still not so good with spaces apparently but as I don't use spaces I don't find that a problem.

Who is straycat? Thanks to her so much, it works also on 10.6.: sidenote pops up even when an app's window is filling the whole screen, but in exposé/spaces, no annoying white window is seen!
now it is the way it should be (IF it keeps the content of my notes safe - in the past sometimes the frontmost note's content was empty after a restart of the computer, i had to restore from time machine, losing always some recent notes. but this hasn't happened for a while - maybe because i use the force-save option always now!?)

Hi Guys,

I'm in the club having installed Lion and lost my notes. According to posts my notes are not lost but are stored in the following location: Users/Your User Folder/Library/Application Support/Sidenote

I'm not the most tech-savvy guy out there but I'm stumped trying to find this even on my Time Machine back ups. Nor does a search for text files show me any of these lost notes.

Does anyone have any other ideas please?

I casually had a look in the activity monitor and was horrified of how much cpu Sidenote uses, just to stay there!
Even if I haven't found yet a better tool, I start searching... :-/

There appears to be a memory leak w/ the button mouseover. When you hover over the buttons quickly, sometimes the blue highlight lags behind and it ends up burning some 90%+ CPU usage, at least in my case anyway. Maybe I'm the only one experiencing this. Otherwise, a great app. Everything else seems to work fine.

I can't reproduce this bug on my computer. What version of MacOS are you using ? Also, do you use ShapeShifter or any haxie on your computer ?

I'm running 10.4.7 right now on an iMac 2.0ghz Intel. I don't have Shapeshifter currently installed on my computer (although at one point I did). It seems it only works when you move the mouse quickly over the buttons. It doesn't always happen, though. I wonder if it has something to do with Rosetta apps, because if I recall correctly, I had MS Word open while entering a note, so maybe that might have had an influence (so it probably might not have anything to do with sidenote itself). Still, thanks for the prompt response!

I've tried 2 different downloads, bth of which have the same problem: the DMG errors with "no mountable file systems".
Other dmg's mount fine on my system, and from the comments I don't see anyone else having this problem. Which strikes me as strange.

OK, new information from my previous problem: apparently other DMG's do not, in fact, mount fine on my system. I'll try restarting or something.
