Bits on Wheels is the first 100% Native BitTorrent client for the Macintosh. It is completely written in Objective-C and Cocoa. It is also the first client to show a realtime 3D view of your downloads.

Version 1.0.6:

New:

You can now click and rotate/move/zoom the 3D Swarm view ! Use the command/option/control keys while dragging to move/zoom/rotate the view.
new 3D Swarm representation : Vertical Race ! Peers start at the bottom and raise up as they complete a torrent.
new 3D tools palette lets you rotate and zoom the 3D view. 3D Options have been moved there.
IP addresses can now be selected and copied to the clipboard, inside the Peers view.

Fixes:

endgame was so-so in 105 and seems to be real nice now.
when rechecking hash, the available pieces weren't re-sorted resulting in 0 piece being downloaded.
crash when updating the validated graph.
removed a couple deadlocks.
crash in race condition.
visual artefacts while checking hash in 3D swarm view.
tidying up multi-threading.
Memory leak when stopping torrents. Another leak with outgoing connexions.
Better Peer handshaking when peer has 0 piece available.
Most Panther crashes.
Many fixes here and there.

Mods:

modified the pieces ring in the 3d view to be more accurate.
changed the amount of requested pieces to avoid stalling.

Known Problems:

Panther only : BoW seems to be incompatible with some APE modules.

Its a shame development of this client seems to have stalled. The 3D Seed/Leech view was badass. Personally, I switched to Transmission.

Great torrent client, but it's outdated. If you liked Bits on Wheels, try Transmission.

Bummer.
I used to follow this closely but the project appears to be COMPLETELY DEAD as of late 2005. Even the forum went south, and this thing is still awfully feature shy and more flash than function.

For me this is still not all that stable and with no work being done, it isn't going to get better.

I'll stick to Azureus which although a bit bloated, gets the job of downloading done fast.

It has WRONGLY been said Azureus is somehow not free or has advertising!

Asureus 3.x with the VUSE GUI has advertising, but it's ALL still FREE and OPEN SOURCE.

Vuse (zudeo) content may have DRM, but the GUI can be turned off to leave Azureus working and behaving like 2.x versions and all code is still under the GPL and actively developed.

NOTE: I HAVE ZIPPO TO DO WITH THE AZUREUS PROJECT.

I was disturbed when VUSE showed up when i upgraded a few days ago.

I simply found the details in the WIKI, including how to turn Vuse off.

Didn't crash for 3 or 4 nights (and days)! In my configuration it is stable as a rock! And it really works fine. With other clients I often see that u/l and d/l rates decrease (to zero) and only a restart of those programs helps. Tomato Torrent doesn't work with multi file downloads (a 100 files in one torrent) and Azureus is nothing more than a big advertisment show... :-( The only free bittorrent client that works really good for me is Bits on Wheels! I like the statistics and the file view in it!

"You and several other people are having trouble finishing torrents. It's always the exact same byte count no matter which one, so apparently BOW is buggy. I just thought I'd give you warning, since you show up in my logs when BOW misbehaves."

That's the message I got off the admin of the site I use telling me they're banning BOW again... aaaaaaargh! Bits On Wheels is by far the best client out there - can you please fix it?

i would love to use yhis torrentclient, since azureus uses too much cpu, but this one dosn´t work on the closed torrentcommunitys where im a member, i either get an error reply or a "client is banned" reply..

Is anyone else getting really high network latency when running this app?

If I ping apple.com while BoW is running, my response times are usually ~2000ms. If I quit BoW, they drop off to a more acceptable ~90ms. If I run the 'regular' BitTorrent client (4.1.2), my ping times don't go up much if at all.

I love this app, but that kind of latency makes other network activity a real drag. Developer, any ideas?

Just downloaded 1.0.6. Preliminary test shows that the network latency is not happening anymore. I can't be sure if they original problem was with BoW or not, but if it was, this version seems to have fixed it.

I want to use this application, but I see also some files appear (what I want to download) on my boot (home) partition.
I don't like those files on my boot partition, why are they there, and why are they not on the partition were the application is.
