For this, it is IMHO an ideal tool! Changing contents 30 files just takes a few seconds. And that's for multiple changes per file. Fast enough.
Just use finder search to select the files I want in a hierarchy of folders, then drag&drop them on massreplaceit.
(that's how you can do nested folder/treewalk for those who asked for the feature)
You can have multiple sets saved for various repetitive tasks, so even if a more complex search-and-replace is needed to modify a file (or files) which normally would take a 2-step approach, it can be done. With ease.
The fields can take quite lengthy pieces of text (I haven't ran against a limit yet), which makes it very easy to have f.e. the META values in a HTML file be replaced by something I want.
For me it's an ideal side-companion to iWeb.

I'm glad so many others are having such roaring success though. I'll look elsewhere.

Thanks for your feedback. Most likely your search settings weren't correct, for example it may have been set to search contents when you wanted to search filenames. If you email me (see the link on the MassReplaceIt website) I can help you find the problem.

Search text: Pop
Replace text: Replaced
File contents before search: "Pop?"
File contents after search: "Replaced?"
If you got a different result, could you post specific details, including search options, so that I can look into a fix?

It's not an app one uses all the time.. but when you do need to... it's great as it saves so much time!
Unfortunately, it doesn't really support .doc format... but it's very rare you need to change a word in several essays. However, that's an area for improvement.
For HTML though, it's great!
