PHP Function Index (PHPfi) is a simple browser to quickly look up any PHP function. Its search offers realtime-filtering of the function list and it downloads and caches the user contributed notes from PHP.NET for instant lookup. Additionally its AppleScript interface lets you look up PHP functions easily from within your favorite editor..

PHPfi is free for academic and hobbyist users, but from professionals who earn their money with PHP coding I ask a small registration fee:

One of those rare utilities that provide value and a VERY reasonable cost. I travel and having the PHP function index and lookup available with a keystroke from BBEdit is to cool.

Priceless. In-page searching was the only thing I was longing for and now it has that too.

I wish someone would make something like this for Python.

"I wish someone would make something like this for Python."

Maybe it already exists. If so, I sure can't find it. If you can/do find it, please post again here as to where it may be found. Thanks.

Yeah, same here - looked around but found nothing. Actually thought of making something like this myself, but the Python docs are not as easily indexed as PHP-s. Also it's all more complex with packages and modules. Will keep looking though.

Here's the next-best thing:

I love this app! But I have an issue to report.

I use a keyboard layout that is not US standard (Swedish layout). And therefore I can't use the Forward/Backward commands in the Go menu, without having to edit the .Nib file for each update of PHP Function Index, and change it to something like Command-Left arrow/Command-Right arrow from the current Command-[ and Command-].

Is it considerable that the shortcuts change into Command-Arrow keys instead? I think this is what, for instance, Safari uses, if I'm not mistaken.

In anyway, thanks for a great app!

Very nice piece of software. Works as advertised and is affordable. Fast and easy to use. The BBedit script also works with TextWrangler (just open it with Script Editor and point it to TextWrangler)

Forget all those PHP manual widgets - get this and don't forget to support the developer! :)

Really nice app! Fast and easy access to php function docs. One thing I would like to see in a future release though, is that when you select a function, it stays selected.

Awesome - it's very fast, lets me easily search PHP functions on my local machine without having to hit php.net and the BBEdit AppleScript is a very nice touch.
