Matriosity generates 12-tone matrices for use in serial music. You can enter a prime row as either letters or numbers and Matriosity will do the rest, generating the matrix as letters or numbers and also analyzing the prime forms of the dyads, trichords, tetrachords, and hexachords.

Matrices generated by Matriosity can be saved and printed.

Well, Matrix Maker is $7.00 shareware and Matriosity is free. That's one difference. :)

A clearing feature for a new row would be helpful

I've added the clear prime row option and fixed the bug in the matrix generation algorithm...working on tone row playback now. I'm hoping to roll all three changes into a v1.1 within a couple days. If the tone row keeps on holding me back, I'll just release what I have.

useful but a some glitches.

For example, for the row {9,6,8,5,4,3,2,7,0,10,11,1}
the matrix generates a -1 instead of 11 in one instance.

Oh geez, I just two minutes ago turned in a 10-page paper on two of the biggies of twelve-tone and serialist music: Schoenberg and Boulez, and I come back to find this at the top of macupdate's software list.

That's surreal.

Anyway, unfortunately, this isn't a review of this software; I think serial music was a bit of an aesthetic misstep. If this program could play the rows and their various permutations, I might be tempted to check it out; any chance of adding that as a feature?
