Don't know if this is significant or not. Ran Virusbarrier all night and it detected "Exploit OSX/MetaData.B" in file Localizable.strings Japanese folder. I've used this for years to read my MRI's and CT scans as an amateur but this is first time to see this. For your advise only.

Also found it in v 5.6 JUST DOWNLOADED from the Osirix website. It is in Japanese.lproj

Just checked Version 5.6 for fun (also downloaded directly from dev's website) - it is ENGLISH only, there's no Japanese.lproj file inside. Don't know what you've been downloading ;)

Respectfully, I just checked both the MacAppStore version and this version and, indeed, the localization file for Japanese was not present so no quarantine took place. That is a positive thing. Indeed, the 'Exploit..." file I had noted originally is now absent whether it meant something in 'real world' or not. Thank you.

This is really a 5-star app for physicians with a Mac. I've been using it since the 2.x days, on OS 9, and love its power and elegance. For the past 5 years or so, I've also paid for the "64-bit" extension to support the developers, even though I have no use for the extended memory management (I only view angiograms, which are not resource-intensive).

My major gripe is that its free version stamps all images with a "Not for medical use" watermark, which is truly annoying.

This, in effect, forces even light users like myself to upgrade every year to the tune of $150-250.

Now that my license has expired, I decided not to renew it for this reason. I believe it's ill-conceived; hence the 4 star rating.

Hope Antoine reconsiders this watermark thing.

Hi,
I wrote a plugin a while ago that gets rid of the "Important Notice" dialog and the "NOT FOR MEDICAL USAGE" watermark, so folks who do no need the FDA/CE version can use the free version of OsiriX without getting nagged.

You can get it at: http://download.naturalimage.ch/UnImportantWebPage.html

I updated this application today and I was presented with an "OsiriX would like access to your contacts".

Um....WTF?!

Why does this developer want access to my contacts?!

Does the app have a sharing feature (via email, for example)? I've noticed that apps that support this functionality typically ask for access when launched (unless Preferences let you disable this feature). Just a guess (haven't checked out the app).

Because it's a medical tool and medics are always contacting their patients and colleagues. OsiriX can share and manage files and attribute it to patients/users.

This is an incredible piece of free software. I recently had a couple of MRI's and when I found out I could get the scans on disk I was excited to see them. But the disk came with Windoze viewers which were no good. An immediate scan of the web brought me to Osirix. Never had any issues with this program ever. Solid. Many thanks for keeping a free version going.

I like this App. I can see the CDs prepared for my Back Operation and clearly see what the Dr. was discussing with me. Excellent app.

Bad link, try this:
http://www.osirix-viewer.com/OsiriX5.0.dmg
or this download page:
http://www.osirix-viewer.com/ContributionOsiriX.html

Unfortunately, the free version is crippleware. You have to buy the 64 bit extension if you want to "get rid of the memory related crashes!" Yes, they really say that on their website.

Were you saying that one of our links was bad? They seem to be working for me. Please clarify! Thanks. :)

After an accident, I used this software to visualize the fracture of my knee. Even without medical knowledge, it is very fun ! The iPad/iPhone apps are nice too, It's very fun to impress his friends.

But I'm sure the medical staff has a more intelligent use of the software than me.
