4Peaks is a program that helps molecular biologists to visualize and edit their DNA sequence files. At last there is a decent solution for analyzing trace files on the Mac OS X platform, taking another step away from slow and non-native programs from the Mac OS 9 period. Also, 4Peaks supports most commonly used sequence file formats right out of the box, you no longer have to convert them first using AppleScripts or other painstaking methods.
Key features:
Reading and writing of most common trace file formats, including ABI, SCF, CTR, ALF and ZTR.
Direct access to both
What's New
Version 1.7.2: Added Danish and Spanish translations.
This is the BEST MacOSX application for viewing and editing sequence trace files. The interface is simple, yet full featured. It allows very quick editing and visualization.
The only negative is that this wonderful app does not do anything else. There is a desperate need for a MacOSX native app for aligning and analyzing sequence data ala BioEdit (alignments) and Mega (alignments, trees, and more). There are powerful applications, but the interfaces are horrendous, stuck back in OS9 era.
I hope these developers will do more with 4Peaks in the future.
Dear Macupdate visitors,
Unfortunately we have identified an issue with opening some ABI files on machines running MacOSX 10.2. These files open fine on machines running Panther, but fail to open or result in strange drawing effects. We will try to resolve the issue as soon as possible. Note that this bug will not affect your sequence files.
Sorry for the inconvenience,
Mek&Tosj

Ability to edit and correct the sequence. Keep interesting parts only, or export your data as text or FASTA files.
Quickly search for a sequence or translation, navigate through your file by selecting pieces of either sequence or translation.
