I have an Intel Imac running 10.5.

I am trying to communicate with a new LG vx9100 enV2.

I try to auto detect my phone and it will not recognize it with Bitpim 1.0.7

Are there any suggestions?

Thanks,

I used BitPim up to version 1.0.6.20080707 with no problem. Got the new chocolate LG VX8560. Version 1.0.6.20080726 & every after crashes @ Launch with error (version BitPim-1.0.6.20080811)

"BitPim Error

Trouble reports should be sent to the developer, not posted here... Please contact the developer.

There are two distinctions made between versions of BitPim 1.06 for the Mac -- PPC vs. Intel, and Tiger vs. Leopard.

I run an Intel/Tiger combination on my Mac (MacBook and 10.4.11), and I got the same error, which I think happens b/c the Intel build is actually not for all Intel machines, but for Intel/Leopard only. It seems to be fixed when I use the PPC/Tiger version instead. (I say 'seems to' because I don't get the sqlite error and it runs, presumably in emulation mode, but I haven't yet fully tested it for later bugs.)

Tiger version is here:
http://sourceforge.net/project/downloading.php?groupname=bitpim&filename=TIGER-bitpim-1.0.6.ppc.dmg&use_mirror=voxel

From the MacUpdate product page for BitPim:

EDITOR NOTES
The 'Download Now' link yields the Intel version, see 'Related Links' below on this page for the PPC version.

I'm not convinced there _is_ an Intel version, which is to say that what is called the Intel version may in fact just be for Intel Macs running Leopard.

MacUpdate-Lon

http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=75211&package_id=75636&release_id=620234

states:

LEOPARD-bitpim-1.0.6.i386.dmg

so the Intel version is for 10.5

and the requirements on the MacUpdate page for BitPim:

Mac OS X 10.5 or later

Thanks for the replies! The downloads I used were the PPC versions. I have of course downloaded the latest "TIGER-bitpim-1.0.6.ppc.dmg" but it won't work either. (but It does Launch) I'm Using "/dev/cu.BT-LGVX8560" for the port w/ the new LG Chocolate. Also tried using the USB. I can't read the filesystem, & when I try to get wallpapers or anything from the phone I get a bunch of errors.(see below) Please know that I LOVE this app & I'm not complaining...(The price is right & Thank-You) I miss being able to use it & I'm sure others who may be having the same problems do to. Apple's "Bluetooth File Exchange" works great for transferring music, pictures & sounds BUT can't backup the phone's entire filesystem or do all BitPim can. Also, phone detection @ startup fails? Says No phone detected/recognized.
run Settings?

Thank-You Everyone!

Link any other Mac app, you drag it to the Trash.

I did that, but as a precaution, as always, I did an Easy Find search and there's about a dozen "hidden" files and when I tried to trash them they're suddenly in a "hidden trash" folder and I can't get rid of them.

Very cool application. The interface is funky and in some places it doesn't behave like a native mac application, but it doesn't matter for this app as it works perfectly. I have never had it crash once for me, and it works exactly as expected functionality wise.

I highly recommed it.

Good program that has seen a lot of progress since earlier versions. Seems to work alright with my Samsung SCH-a930 when it doesn't crash...you can always tell its going to because a file window will end up tinted blue beforehand. Any chance of an Intel compiled version so it doesn't have to be run under rosetta? I am hoping that it what is causing the problem.

Yup... Intel is under Rosetta is unstable as it can get. My buddy just bought a new LG phone and we checked it out on his PPC machine along with my phone from Samsung. On the PPC G4 they worked almost perfectly, importing / exporting contacts, adding wall papers (though the cropping tool is unstable there as well), editing and copying ring tones, etc. On Intel I was barely able to browse the filesystem and half the time the program would crash on load.

A really great tool on PowerPC Macs though.

How did you establish communication? I have a Samsung SCH-a930 too, but every time I try to download from the phone, I get a series of error messages in the log:

18:34:06.253 usb::003::002-04e8-6640-02-00::2: Timed out - flushing and trying again

18:34:14.252 usb::003::002-04e8-6640-02-00::2: Timed out waiting for 7e, requested bytes -99999 - 0 bytes read

18:34:14.296 Error: Device needs attention - SCH-A930 on usb::003::002-04e8-6640-02-00::2

SCH-A930 on usb::003::002-04e8-6640-02-00::2: The phone is not responding while manipulating the filesystem.

I believe I told it that I was using the A950...I read somewhere that was the best way to do it. I will try again with this new version and see if it behaves better under Rosetta.

(BTW BitPim works great with Windows running on Parallels with my Mac... until there is a Mac intel native version that is the most likely way I will keep using it.)

What we have here is the best option to the non-paying crowd. This app works very well with most of the recent LG phones, with many of the samsung ones and is relatively easy to navigate.

My main hint for people is to make sure they get the correct cable and INSTALL THE DRIVERS. It took me 2 weeks to understand this second one.

If you are not patient, do not download this. Exactly what the settings are for your setup is going to take time and possibly a bit of frustration, but once you figure out your phone's tricks, it can be a cakewalk.

All that is truly lacking is major documentation for each phone set (yah, right.) and sync of movies.
some ability to interface with all of the iLife package would be nice, but development wise, a pain.

Is there something similar to this that will run on the MAC (10.3.9) with a GSM/GPRS phone (i.e. Moto A630) connected via a serial to USB interface cable? Essentially, I'd like Moto's Phone Tools programs to be compiled on a Mac :-) -- but something similar will do!!

I am so frustrated!!

Where do you find drivers for LG phones for Mac OS? Perhaps the lack of a driver is why my Mac can not see my phone, but are there really Mac drivers?

...BEEN trying to figure this out for AWHILE! if I do... I'll come back n try to help...!

I got my cable from RadioShack, though- found the kernel extension here ( http://tech.prolific.com.tw/visitor/v_filebrw_result.asp ) just TODAY! BitPim still won't work, although it detects it quicker...! Nice. I'm off to LG's site to look for 6000 device drivers- if any.

There seems to be a problem with Tiger and the Prolific drivers for the VX6000 cable.
