I bought PS 5.5 just two months ago. Now they want me to pay $399 to upgrade to this (the same price as for people who upgrade from CS4). That's... not going to happen, Adobe.

I am here mainly to comment on the link "Buy" and "Visit Developer's Site" above. When I clicked on them, they redirect me to an emjcd.com, which is immediately blocked by Norton dns. A Google search told me it is a malware site. In fact, the Flash CS6 page has the exact same symptom.

How on earth does macupdate provide such links to users? Is macupdate hacked? Thanks.

Norton is incorrect (not really surprising, imo). emjcd.com is a Commission Junction affiliate link (cj.com). Commission Junction is one of the largest affiliate services in the world. There is no malware involved. Using that link simply provides us with a small piece of revenue if you end up buying the title from Adobe.

Rest assured everything posted to MacUpdate is manually checked & verified to be good. (I am changing your 3.5 star "rating" to just a comment, btw.)

This will not install on a case sensitive volume. I therefore cannot install it on my boot drive unless I reformat it, which I am not willing to do. This is the only program that has ever given me this problem. Completely lame and sloppy programming. I paid for this program and now I cannot use it.

If you're able to install it on a disk image formatted as non-case sensitive you might be able to get it to work.

Giving it one star for that is pretty extreme. Having used PS for several versions, the case sensitivity limitation is nothing new. In fact I just looked up CS6 system requirements and guess what it says very clearly: "...cannot install on a volume that uses a case-sensitive file system."

I would call that a completely lame and sloppy purchase and installation without even bothering to understand the long-established requirements of what you were buying.

Why would you have a case sensitive volume? It serves no purpose at all. That's your fault, not Adobe's.

Oh, and this was a problem way back with CS4:

What version of Adobe CS have you been using? Case sensitive volumes are not worth the hassle, unless you are trying to be übergeek and pretend you are running a true Unix install.

Been using CS6 for about 2 weeks now in trial mode awaiting my serials from Adobe and all I can say is this baby is fast. The new content ware features save a ton of time and the new UI makes it much easier to use for extended time periods. I haven't had time to use the other tolls much yet, but this is the first Photoshop I have been excited for in a while.

To be honest I think the current trends of, change the look a little bit, change the icon and add a small amount of features and add yet another stupidly high price tag is just getting stupid.

I think all the features of CS4, CS5 and CS6 may just qualify as one update and those still should not cost the amount to upgrade once..

It's a good piece of software but there is never enough added to the updates to make them worth the price.

I'm going to give a quick review the software itself. The new default interface is great, everything is contained within one dark gray window. At first I hated it but within a minute I was sold. The brushes and palettes are all contained within this window. The brushes and palettes can be detached if needed. The file you are working on is set within the window so the outer periphery can easily be seen. While doing some basic editing, the temperature of my computer sometimes increased by about between 20-40F. A couple small issues I had with CS5 have been corrected (control z sometimes would not step back unless I did it three times and the Spot Healing Brush would leave a trail until I scrolled the image, saved it or used the tool again and no more problems with the Rectangular Marquee Tool). My initial impression of CS6 is that it is much better than CS5.

that's all it says? have you checked your console?

i ran into such a problem with CS4 -- i have a case-sensitive system drive, and that seemed to make CS4 profoundly unhappy, without exactly telling me why it was unhappy; ihad to figure that out myself. well, it makes ME profoundly unhappy that such a large company can't get their act together -- at least CS4 i could install on a different, case-insensitive drive, but with CS5 adobe disallowed even that. i've had plenty of other upgrade and install problems over the years; anyone who doesn't is lucky -- good for them, but that doesn't invalidate the complaints.

so, maybe you have an issue like that? you need to give more detail if anyone is supposed to help you.

does anyone know whether CS6 finally deals with case-sensitivity like a professional program?

Do I or don't I try the beta? Just worried about all the krap it's going to install everywhere (as is adobe's style).

Adobe's new annual release model is a real turn off. Having to pay each year for a version that is 0.5 newer is a real pain and the subscriptions don't really make it that much better.

Except we really *don't* have to pay. Vote with your pocketbook and REFUSE to pay for the 0.5 versions! Subscriptions are generally for desperate people and are a poor choice for the long-term.

I am currently in the UK.
It's an old story I know... But Adobe is still taking the piss
that a product ( PS Upgrade ) sells for $199 US dollars
( Which is £130 UK Pounds )
sells in the UK for £189 pounds ( $288 US Dollars )

I know all the stuff about writing languages conversions
and different taxes etc, etc...
But when it comes down to it - it just stinks.
