I'm always meaning to upgrade, but haven't yet.
One of those "why would I ever use this?"
For web 'reseach,' this is just grand.
I've used it to collect information off the web for some writing, cut & pasted into VoodooPad with the hotlinks intact & then crosslink it locally into its own loose database for further processing in other applications.
This is a MUST have application, that along with just a few others, makes the Mac environment special.

No matter what pad you may use for text, you may end up wanting to stay with VooDoo Pad for all the rest of your digital work.

(Why do so many Leopard users have pompous attitudes toward Tiger users???)

How bad the developer decided to abandon all the Tiger users.

- The link button is right next to the home button. I use it for a good 3 hours a day minimum (email tech support job :/) so I can wind up with links for random words all over the place.
- Requiring the purchase of the full version to save in some more portable formats? That's a little underhanded. I guess they have to make money somehow.
- "Check Spelling While Typing" must be set individually for every page and defaults to off. C'mon, if I turn on the spell checker I want it to STAY on. Am I missing a setting?
Besides that, GREAT product. My email productivity has been boosted to superhuman levels since I started using this to keep track of customers, bugs and common replies.

I use it mainly as a journal for personal notes and random thoughts. I love the free form that VP allows, never trying to impose a certain way to its user. It is a "zen" application, it adapts to you.
I strongly recommend it.

This is one of four of 46 demo-ed OSX note pads --that I most often use --and have the most dot.vdoc files on my hard drive. With Notational Velocity, Journler, and MacJournal.
Database location --as much editor as special note pad. All compositions are saved to hard drive file. My Library/Cache is empty.
As good an editor as a special note pad --so --unlike classic note pads --VdP has a host of our Open/SaveAs/Insert/Import/Export actions. File menu has 3 different Opens, 2 Saves, 2 Exports, 1 import. Edit menu has 3 pastes, Append Selection and more. More plugins are being offered daily. Makes a note pad lover --with it's limited Read Ins and Write Outs --burst into tears. :)

I have written the developer about their bugs.
It is great that this excellent program is provided for free. But self-sabotaging programs are not tolerable. :-P
