escapepod is a little application that lets you terminate the frontmost application by hitting Control-Alt-Delete, terminate the Dock by hitting Shift-Control-Alt-Delete, or do a force-logout by hitting Command-Control-Alt-Delete.

There are times that Mac OS X appears to be hung (especially in some games) when it really isn't -- just the frontmost application's GUI is wedged. The Dock also occasionally stops responding under some circumstances, which can be cured by terminating it . Additionally, when the entire GUI appears to be hung, it is safer to do a force-logout than to simply

This is EXACTLY the kind of app I was looking for. I hate it when OS X hangs for whatever reason. And sometimes the dock will freeze and act annoying. Now I can just restart it with simple key commands. I don't know why you said this was discontinued because "Apple added these features to OS 10.3 and later", which they didn't. My only gripe about this app is the incredibly annoying rocket sound it makes after you hit the key commands. If you could make a NEW version without the annoying sound, it would be much appreciated. The program works flawlessly though and I'm running Mac OS 10.4.7.

Make sure you not typing command-alt-delete. The correct keys are control-alt-delete.

Why not write a program that quits the application when you hit the red button
in the upper left of the window, it also quits the application as well???????

To the developer, why doesn't the cntrl+alt+delete function to quit the frontmost running app work? The force logout (cntrl+alt+option+delete) works fine. Any suggestion on how to remedy this glitch? Thanks.

seems to have disabled to the go-to-sleep energy saving on my 12PB; perhaps because it's already present in the memory?
