Once installed, DSP-Quattro proved unstable and frustrating. My major need at first was to process a drive full of aiff files which only required some pitch adjustment and minor editing. After successfully changing the pitch of my first file I tried to save it only to receive the message "Error in user parameter list", the following error message suggests trying "save as". Accepting the choice to "save as" results in an unplayable file which must be closed and then re-opened if you wish to play it or do any further edits. Don't bother searching the 157 page PDF user manual for "User parameter" or "Error message", you won't find anything.
Frequently DSP-Quattro would freeze up requiring a forced quit. I tried simplifying my set-up, using only the built-in audio at the frequency of the aiff files but still had continual problems. Even with no other programs running on my G5 dual processor machine, sometimes I had to re-boot the machine. Something no other program has ever required since I have had the machine.
AS IS SOFTWARE
A check of DSP-Quattro's Liscence agreement reads:
THE SOFTWARE AND ACCOMPANYING ELECTRONIC AND WRITTEN MATERIALS (INCLUDING INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE) ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND.

we are very sorry for the problems you had loading those audio files in version 2.1.2, sincerely we do not have any other reports like this. Why did you not write to our support if you had problems? we do everything is possible to reply always within 24 hours. Please do it, maybe it was simply an incompatibility with the audio file headers, there are several solutions to this.

I will tell you what he need to do. He have the right to go to the company personal, then the company need to pay his airpot billet and kick all the programers in the face.

Slow your horses down a notch.
1. This is not a place to make threats.
2. Sounds like a friend of yours bought the software and not you, yet, you are the one getting all huffy about it.
3. If you or your boyfriend would have taken the time to go on the developer's site, you and/or heshe, would have most likely found out that you need to create an account in the user area to receive the code.
4. What is a USB music station? I assume is a hardware sequencer? Why would you need money back for DSP 4, when DSP 4 seemed to be a bonus/ extra with your or his USB music station?
5. Any software you purchase, once the seal is open, it becomes automatically "not returnable." Why? You or your friend could have made backup copies and recorded the serial number. The distributor or the maker has no way of knowing that. If it doesn't work, the maker will replace it.
6. You can't call a company via email. Last I checked, you need a phone.
7. You can fly all day long, but why should they pay for the air fair when you plan to stump on their faces? I see. You and your girl want to go to Italy, get your money plus the fair ticket, kick the developers in the face and then take a vacation while there, at someone else's expense. Nice.
Actually, go ahead and try that. Once you're done doing your thing, you and your friend wont make it 30 yards=27.4 meters=you'll stay in Italy forever.
8. You said: "IN THIS CASE WHEN THAT HAPPEND WHAT NEED A PERSON NEED TO DO. I will tell you what he need to do..."
uhm... Are you in the advisory business, or you just blow smoke from a computer keyboard?
OK5, I see the frustration, but threats, get you nowhere with the developer, and on Macupdate, majority of the readers will get turned off by your remarks. Macupdate is a place for people like you and I to rate, comment and review software and that's it.
@ Stefano Daino:
OK5, you had to wait 2 days for an answer, so what? I am a professional musician/composer/producer and I have unanswered techlinks over a year old from other companies. That didn't stop me from going forward and I'm still waiting, I didn't drop them, but in the mean time I found answers elsewhere from other users. Patience is a good virtue and it sucks that everybody is in a hurry. You also have to remember that developers make software for 1000's and 1000's of users.

beep beep, beep beep... yeah! reviewed on 25 Jan 2006
I've worked with it in my studio for a few months now and I'm very impressed by it's features, wave-display and ease-of-use.
Positives..:
+ Built for fast and efficient workflow
+ Very clean interface with superb wave-display
+ Works as a host for AU aLnd VST Sample-Instruments
+ Extensive fade/crossfade (& insert) options
+ Many, many more nice features; I couldn't miss them anymore!
... and some minor negatives:
- Limited cd-text options (at this time; v2.1.2)
- Direct saving as MP3 not possible (you have to install a lame mp3-export-plugin)
All in all:
This is a VERY good competitor (in many points even better) than it's (much more expensive) rivals!

BUT (!)
There are two (2 little details that I'd like to humbly express my discontent in). Remember, these are my ONLY objections, all other audio programs (I have tested them all) in this genre has tons of things I could complain about, so. Anyway, here are my concerns:
1.) Every time that I want to create a new document, say if I want to save some part of the current file into a new sketch document, I have to first SAVE THE NEW DOCUMENT, before being able to use it... That is honestly quite irritating, since I'm always ending up with LOTS of documents, many of which I never really wanted to save. This is what I can't seem to understand why DSP-Quattro does it. Where DSP-Quattro beats the competition by miles, here's where it really looses ground. All other applications let you create a new document, do whatever you want to do in it, and finally DECIDE, whether you want to save it or not. :(
2.) I think that the copy/paste functions are quite fuzzy. It isn't like, normally, when you just select a part of the sound that you want to copy, then press Command-C for copy and Command-P for paste. Instead you have to use another combination. Maybe it's just me who have a concern about this, but I think that the copy/paste routine has to conform to more standardized and common operation.
But all-in-all, if you are to buy a great, classy sound editor and want the real stuff, buy this one. It won't let you down and in comparison to the others, this application still stands its ground as being number one.
