MathMagic Pro for InDesign is an equation editor mainly for use with Adobe InDesign software in editing any mathematical expressions and symbols with WYSIWYG interface and various powerful features. It lets you write or edit equations right inside the InDesign documents without going through export/import. The superior quality and productivity of MathMagic was accepted by many DTP professionals around the world.
What's New
Version 8.0:
  • Added: Compatibility with Apple iBooks Author and other applications that are supported by Drag and Drop or Copy and Paste in PDF format. Also supports re-editing of equations by dragging or pasting back to MathMagic window.
  • Added: User can select the way that Vector Accents with arrows and harpoon is displayed - Font based Glyph vs. Drawing arrows directly for Accents, from Preferences dialog - Shape pane.
  • Added: Right-button clicking on a Template or Symbol toolbar button detaches its pop-up palette as a floating window.
  • Added: "Show Current Character Info" item added to View menu to display the detailed character info of the current Cursor location on the top right corner of the current window.
  • Added: New options for compact MathMagic mmf data annotation added to LaTeX and MathML tabs in Import/Export Options dialog.
  • Added: View rate for the current editor window can be increased or decreased by mouse scrolling while holding down option key by 100% step. Shift-option mouse wheel changnes the view rate by 10%.
  • Added: Fence, Fraction, Radical, and other templates have new additional templates or rearranged for a better usability.
  • Added: More than 40 new symbols added to Symbol palettes and some symbol palettes are rearranged.
  • Added: Copy As PDF command added to Edit menu and Contextual popup menu.
  • Added: Exoprt and Copy rates (50~800%) support for PDF format as well.
  • Added: PNG format is also copied to the clipboard when "PNG & JPEG format" is selected for the Clipboard format.
  • Added: New Web Color mode added to the Color window as a new color type for easier web compatible color picking.
  • Added: Copying in MathType compatible format supported in the Import/Export Options - Clipboard format options.

  • Changed: Default Fonts in the Factory setting Style changed: MMTimes to MMCenturyNew, MMGreek to MMCenturyOldGreek.
  • Changed: Drawing improved for Arrow heads and Harpoon heads.
  • Changed: Strike Thru Overhang for Negates now accepts negative value as well to reduce the length of strike thru line.
  • Changed: A few function names(Im, Pr, Re) are better recognized as a normal word where Function name is not appropriate.
  • Changed: The editor window can be reduced to a much smaller size.
  • Changed: Shortcut key for 'Plain' style is changed to shift-cmd-P.
  • Changed: cmd-K or cmd-T shortcut keys(followed by a char) now works better with some European keyboard layouts, by supporting shift-cmd-K or shift-cmd-T followed by a non-shift character to offer the same shift-keyed character effect.

  • Fixed: Floating windows were not updated after a dialog window was displayed in some cases.
  • Fixed: Default Accent font face was forced to inherit from its base character even if the face was not available for the Accent font.
  • Fixed: Math Default Style command under Style menu did not set Number style correctly.
  • Fixed: When checking the latest Update automatically, MathMagic did not recognize the Proxy setting if a Proxy server was used in the network.
  • Many other minor changes and fixes.

What's the deal? On VersionTracker the price is stated as $499.00 but here on MacUpdate, the price is listed as $695.00. Which is it?

They have various pricing options.
$499 is their regular full version price. $695 comes with 2-year free upgrade.
Academic pricing also available($299).
