can someone please, please help me get this crap program (total access) off my eMac computer??? I got it all off except for in system pref., it won't allow me to get rid of it. I tried holding down the "control" while clicking on the icon and still nothing.
HELP ME> I hate earthlink! I've had no luck with their tech support YET. So far they've just tried to blame me for not properly uninstalling it. Yeah - whatever.... since I got the step by step instructions off their website!

Puke!

Since Sky sold out to the dark side the Macintosh experience has decreased and I no longer recommend this ISP to friends and family!

Oh, and Total Access sucks the OS down to a crawl…

TotalAccess bogged down my computer to a crawl. I got the spinning wheel opening up multiple web pages and switching between programs (ex iTunes). I uninstalled TotalAccess and my computer is back to normal.

I was excited when this came out, but I am now very disappointed. Some - very few pages are faster - but loading google and performing google searches, which used to take less than a second, now take 10-30 seconds. While some loading is faster, there always seems to be a 5-10 second lag time before a page starts coming in, in effect canceling any acceleration.

TotalAccess 2004 for Mac is a very stable app that is useful for most EarthLink customers. Accelerator is only for dial-up customers and does reduce image quality in trade for faster surfing. You must understand what Acceleration is, in order to know how and when to turn it on. It works with all browsers, including Safari. It is very easy to turn on and off, so if you want to scour the net for products or news, it is the way to go. If you want to view personal web pages or see high quality images, simply turn it down or off. The option is yours. Eventually you figure out when it is best to have on or off. We will be adding various features in the future, such as a quick way to load a page with all or some graphics uncompressed, without having to turn off the Accelerator.
This app also has a lot more functions and we will be adding various major components this year. We are completely and totally committed to Mac development, are Apple's chosen ISP and will continue to support our loyal Mac customers.
If you have any feedback or feature ideas, please submit them vai the 'Software Feedback' link in the EarthLink task panel. I answer each and every email that comes in.
Thanks,
William Harrison

I sent in a complaint as per instructed: "If you have any feedback or feature ideas, please submit them vai the 'Software Feedback' link in the EarthLink task panel. I answer each and every email that comes in.'
My email was answered by:
Ethan D 2398
EarthLink Electronic Customer Support
EarthLink, Inc.
Case ID 35825417
Apparently "William Harrison
Mac Product Manager - EarthLink" has changed his name to Ethan.
My complaint was: "About Total Access I installed this on a iMac running 10.2.3 and the wife didn't like it. I then uninstalled it and Safari will no longer connect to the net. Mozilla will and email works and I kinda know why it won't work but I need to know what to do to get Safari working to appease my wife."
Ethan's replay was:
"We understand that you are having issues regarding your Safari on your Mac.

Unfortunately, the issue you are having is related to your system rather than the Internet connection via EarthLink. Your best resource for a correct solution to this issue would be the manufacturer of that software. We apologize for any inconvenience."
My reply to Ethan was:
"Dear Ethan D 2398,

Apparently you can't read. If you would just read my original message you would see that the problem with Safari was caused by YOUR SOFTWARE, EARTHLINK TOTAL ACCESS! And you could also see that I DID CONTACT THE MANF. OF THE SOFTWARE which is YOU!

This is YOUR problem caused by YOUR software and I demand YOU fix it!

And finally, Ethan D 2398, You might also notice that this email was NOT addressed to you. But then it does not appear that you read it so I'm not surprised you didn't notice that. Harrison's name came from MacUpdate when he left a nice letter to reply to several peoples complaints about YOUR software. You will also notice two notes from me, 'fth' also about your software. You will likely see more from me about this on MacUpdate if you refuse to provide a fix for this. I installed your software, then uninstalled it and Safari is broken. It's YOU not Safari that is the problem, Stop trying to pass the buck and FIX IT!"

Frank, I'm not affiliated with Earthlink at all, but you might want to try a less "aggressive" approach. Yes, you are a paying Earthlink customer, but if you were Earthlink Tech Support, would you respond to what you just sent? I wouldn't. It is possible that their software affected Safari, but the fix may not be out of your reach. First, you should apply the Combo Update for 10.2.8 . If you're going to stick with 10.2, you might as well have the current system. Since 10.2.8, there has also been a Safari update. Try applying that. Another thing to try would be repairing permissions. One (if not a combination) of the above solutions should fix your problem. If not, contact Earthlink again in a quite matter.

I meant to say "quiet" instead of quite. Just take it slow and don't blow up on tech support like that. They deal with a lot of problems on a daily basis. While you are of interest, the #1 priority in email tech support is to give you the "best" solution ASAP. They know you'll email back if it doesn't work. Just try to be nice. Give it at least 5 replies before you turn into a human volcano.

I agree with the previous posters about the quality of Earthlink service, however this software is terrible...
The "accelerator" bogged down my tiBook to nearly crawling speeds, and it rendered almost unrecognizable images on webpages. I don't see how this "speeding up" of download times could help any since you can't even make out the images, you might as well just turn off loading any images at all...
When I tried to uninstall, my previous dialup settings were gone, and I had to reconfigure everything. No biggie, but it was just a hassle.
I give Earthlink Service two *HUGE* thumbs up for their service, but two thumbs down for this software...

I am a long time (off and on) Earthlink subscriber. They are top notch, have a good price and are the all around best ISP, by far, I have ever used.

The TotalAccess software, however, is not something I need or want. It is great for the technically challenged (the sort that would use AOL are perfect for this application) and it offers valuable speed increases for dialup users, but it simply interfers with my high speed web habits... it "dumbs down" too much for me but would be great for my Mom.

Mail.app provides all the spam blocking I need and I can do without the extra resource load imposed by TotalAccess

Earthlink is a very very good ISP... used their service for years when I lived in New York City. Great tech support... though I had very few issues over the five years I was a client of theirs.
