Secure, end-to-end encrypted cloud storage and sharing.

Overview

Tresorit is an end-to-end encrypted, secure cloud storage and file sharing solution designed to store, sync and share confidential data.

Simply turn any folder to a Tresor and place a file into it and they will automatically sync with every devices connected to the same account. Encryption is performed before the data gets uploaded to the cloud. Decryption is only possible with permission from the owner and already encrypted contents can be shared without re-encryption, but in a 100 percent secure way.

To prove the security of Tresorit, the company initiated a bounty of $50,000 and invited leading Universities and hackers to breach their service. To date noone has succeeded despite attempts by hundreds including MIT, Stanford, Caltech and Harvard.

Hmh… they say their server are in switzerland. Where? They say, the company is based in switzerland. But the whole names an phones are Hungarian. They say "Supported by a grant from Switzerland through the Swiss Contribution" but the documents cannot be found. Make it clear, Tresorit, before we trust.

Not very useful for a Mac user. It won't sync files/folders with common characters like / , < ,> or ?. They're all allowed in macOS. It also does not sync finder comments and tags so it can destroy your document management.

Hi Hawk,

Tresorit is different, as we keep your data encrypted in the cloud.

Dropbox and other popular cloud providers claim that your data is “safe”, but they don’t protect your files the way we do. They may encrypt your data but they have the encryption key and the files get decrypted on their servers every time they are accessed. Their administrators can see your files, and so can anyone who manages to gain access to their systems.

Tresorit's client-side encryption technology secures your files on your device with some of the highest grade encryption methods available and your files can’t be decrypted in the cloud. This makes them safer than “safe”. No one else has the decryption key, not even Tresorit administrators. A single file can only be accessed by you and those whom you shared it with.

Hi Forn! The company responsible for storing and managing your data in our cloud is in Switzerland, you can find the address on our contact page (tresorit.com/contact) and Terms of Service. Our R&D offices are in Hungary. Tresorit is running on Microsoft Azure, using Azure's datacenters in Ireland and the Netherlands. I hope you find this answer useful, but if you have any further questions, could you let us know at support@tresorit.com?

I am thinking the same way about that as Forn. First I also got catched by these striking advertising sentences about the european privacy protection. Everyone loves to use this for advertising, but nearly none of the companies I found till now is really responsible for the data security which you get implied. I really like the easy handling and the integration of all my communication stuff! I was very impressed about the possibility just to share any folder on my Mac and that it also seems so secure because of the end to end encryption.... But the advertising with these eye-catcher compared to the facts, that the company is based in Hungary, my syncing data directly led me to Ireland! (where yahoo fled this year - changing their privacy policy) and the IP range it ends is the Azure Cloud project of microsoft made me a little bit sceptical. So I asked myself if the last and biggest argument to feel secure isn´t also more advertising. So it let me to the following thought: The files are encrypted end to end, but if I invite someone, the files are decrypted in his folder. What is it is possible that anyone between can invite himself? It would be the same as if you invite different people to one folder with the only difference that you don´t see some of them.... P.S. Just some thoughts to share.

The Company is based in Switzerland but the servers are NOT in Switzerland? Then you can NOT advertise with "Secure" and "Switzerland". From my point of view it is clear messleading. If your servers are in Ireland and the Netherlands, our files are NOT covered by Swiss Law. By the way: I'am in Switzerland.

I recently began using Tresorit, and so far I like it. In addition to Tresorit's security features like client-side encryption and servers based in the EU, things I like about the software include being able to sync any folder I want, so I'm not constrained to having to put everything into a single folder like Dropbox, and being able to not sync some folders (called "Tresors") on some computers, which is similar to Dropbox's selective sync feature. The only thing I don't like is that Tresorit doesn't handle Mac OS X metadata properly (or at all). Most annoying is that Mavericks tags aren't synced. Almost as annoying is Tresorit doesn't like "invalid characters" like question marks, which may be invalid on some other operating system (Windoze), but are perfectly valid in OS X. Another annoyance is that file extensions that are hidden on the source Mac appear visible when synced to another Mac. Similarly, files that are invisible on the source computer show up as visible when synced to another computer.

I forgot to note that files with "invalid characters" like question marks are not synced, so be careful when using these "special" characters.

I heard back from the dev, who says that "we are working on enhancing our Mac app and in the close future it will recognize and sync all the tags and metadata" and "we are working on a solution for these characters, currently we do not sync those files that contain these special characters."

Tresorit is good stuff. Have been using it for a while now, using duplicate folders rather than originals at the moment. Seems solid, takes a while to sync single files but really quite reasonable for 100+ files in a folder. I like the idea of client side encryption, rather than server side. Would be nice to have a version indicator in the preferences, an updating indicator as well. Also would be nice to know what systems are accessing the tresors, i.e., my iPad/iPhone/laptop and some indication about how synced they are. This software is good and seems solid. Have had no crashes yet although it is easy to confuse it when one folder is removed/trashed on one machine, and its tresor is removed on the other using tresorit, it throws a lost error. Have also read the white paper. DropBox is still used for convenience but knowing that its not really secure, I only use it for public stuff. Prefer Tresorit for privacy. 5 stars.

I bumped into Tresorit about a month ago and have been using Tresorit for Mac from the very early stages. What I really like is that it is easy to use, the UI is very intuitive and it syncs smoothly and quickly for me. I gave lower score on the features, because I deadly miss referrals and upgrade options, but they told me it is coming in a few weeks, so I may improve it :) On the other hand the security and the privacy Tresorit offers is incomparably better than the others out there (and it it very important for me since I store there many of my business stuff). Definitely worth a try, if you have not yet done that, it is time to move on from dropbox!
